Alice
Speaker of Magic

She was the first council member, chosen by Vetrius. Serving as the Speaker of Magic, she speaks for all things involving magic within the clan. All magical ranks are appointed by her, and any magic using civilians must have her approval to remain in the clan (whether they know it or not).

Even in her youth, Alice had been focused on Shade related things. As an imperial, she felt especially compelled to look into how the Shade worked, and possible ways to cure or control it. She quickly became known in the magical research field for her ambitious studies and goals. Working with two others, wildclaws Aster and Nix, they worked tirelessly to learn anything they could about the Shade, both as an entity and a magic. In what little free time she had, Alice was also very interested in studying ancient magics, and a little secretly began to experiment with it. Though often unpredictable due to unavoidable translation errors, Alice felt like they could be a key to understanding and interacting with the Shade, which she imagined was as old as the magic she looked into. Everything changed when Nix' ideals changed. After an argument, Alice ran after her only to find her being attacked by an emperor, their companion Aster felled. Using an ancient nature magic she'd been toying with, she absorbed the shade and magic of the emperor into herself, rendering the corpse magicless and thus lifeless. It resulted in an explosion of magic that left Nix scarred and burnt, and Alice blooming with flowers. They were found by a party sent by the Cartico Clan and taken in. When Alice recovered, her and Nix were both offered a home in the clan by Vetrius. Though they both accepted, they hardly ever saw another. Nix seemed different now. Darker. And Alice was left alone to navigate her own shade corruption. Night terrors in which the Shade within her taunted and tortured her seemed to be the norm, but still, she managed to prevail and grow stronger. After some time, Vetrius approached her and offered her something new. She wanted to appoint a council to rule the clan instead of having her as a singular leader. And she wanted Alice to be the Speaker for Magic on it. Alice agreed, and now continues her studies. She also has a promising apprentice in Mirror, and a growing relationship of some kind with Hiraeth. |
