Cairne is the founder of the clan that bears his name - his assumed name. Wherever he came from, it was assumed that when he left, it was the end of his life. He marked his own grave by claiming territory in Lightning's lands, having always had an affinity for the element. He is not of the scientific type, but in his refusal to turn away any outcasts, unwanted hatchlings, or oddities means his tribe does enough by way of experimentation and science to keep their place.
He believes strongly in finding places for those who do not have a place - not always with his clan, sometimes a better fit turns up elsewhere and Cairne will take a new clan member in exchange for an old.
These recent weeks, his steps have grown slowly heavier, and some transformation seems to be taking place beneath the cloak and heavy armor he's taken to wearing. Heavy fur has begun to appear from beneath it, shaggy and thick. Always enigmatic except around the hatchlings he considers his Charge, Cairne has become even more reclusive. The Lightguard and Nightguard have begun stirring against each other without his quelling influence, each having adopted one of his potential successors.
