______ Selkhenar was born in the early years of dragons, among the first guardian dragons to hatch under the Gladekeeper and not the Tidelord. She was average in size and build, but extraordinary in her drive to protect, seeming to take the world and all of its inhabitants as her Charge even as she searched for the one thing she was destined to protect with her life. For her deeds, she was blessed by the Lightweaver, gilding scales and blinding her enemies with golden brilliance. The Gladekeeper watched her carefully whenever she came home, having the time to devote to the occasional individual dragon when their kind was so new. She became well-respected amongst all who knew of her, and she was known to take no nonsense from anyone who had dared to wrong her or the innocent.

______ But things don't last forever. Selkhenar was among those who rose up to fight one of the first dreaded Emperors, multiheaded monstrosities who threatened the very world itself. She was gravely injured in battle and fell into a haze of death, closing her eyes and drifting away towards the abyss. The Gladekeeper, distressed, placed her in stasis and hid her deep under the Viridian Labyrinth, in the very heart of the power of nature. Powerful healing spells were weaved around her, slowly stitching her wounds together as she was kept alive by the magic of the deity alone.

______ And then, she was forgotten. The Gladekeeper moved on from her pet project, caught up in battling the Plaguebringer and dealing with the massive influx of dragons all over Sornieth. Centuries passed, then millennia, and through it all Selkhenar slumbered under the Viridian Labyrinth, wounds long-healed and magic continuing to build upon her, onwards and onwards until her curled form took up the entire cavern she had been left in and then continued to expand, displacing dirt and causing subtle shifts in the earth directly above. The deepest and most ancient of trees ran their roots down to her depth, wrapping themselves in a cocoon around her and feeding off of the life magic that kept her alive.

______ But eventually, with a sudden snap, she awoke. The magic keeping her in stasis and continuing her growth was finally exhausted, and as she awoke, she snapped roots and displaced earth. No air entered her lungs, and she panicked, reaching out towards life and feeling it above her. She pushed upwards, using her innate power over nature to move the remaining roots of the trees and clear a path for her. The trees shuddered, the ground shifted, and the grass and shrubs were ripped from their places as Selkhenar's head broke free and gulped in air for the first time in thousands of years.

______ Nearby denizens of the Viridian Labyrinth believed they were seeing an Emperor or the Gladekeeper herself arise from the trees, towering over the forest and spreading wings that blocked out the sun for those directly underneath. Its skull was the size of the average guardian dragon, its length over six hundred feet and its wingspan even greater. The dragon that looked around at a new world was not, however, either a deity or a monstrosity, and with a furious roar at the realization of how long she must have been asleep, Selkhenar took to the air on wings that struck like thunder in the air. A dragon of nature and light, bone and gold, hovered above the Behemoth and bellowed for the Gladekeeper to answer her.

______ She did not appear. Frightened, furious, and lost in time, Selkhenar fled, flying out of the Viridian Labyrinth and deep into the Sunbeam ruins. She stopped at a river to drink and screamed in fear and repulsion, seeing that not all of her wounds could be healed and had only been skipped over. Her head had been stripped of all flesh, only the gilded blessing of the Lightweaver remaining untouched as her bleached white skull peered at its reflection in the water. Half-rotten flesh had been rejected in favor of new tissue, leaving an abnormal and rotting growth on her back and shoulders. The feathers and birdskulls she had previously worn were bleached white with age and cobwebs clung stubbornly to her wings.

______ She was not the same Selkhenar that had been felled in battle against an Emperor. She was a towering creature the size of a small hill, forgotten by the gods for millennia and left alone with the consequences. Distraught, she continued to flee, this time into unfamiliar territory. Remarkably, she felt less out of place in the Shifting Expanse, where open spaces allowed her more room to move and she held no memories of being a normal size. She felt less restricted and less pained by the past, but she dared not stop for longer than was necessary, as dragons were equally fascinated and terrified of her. Eventually, she came to rest in the territory of a clan that seemed more curious than anything else, and their leader, a mirror by the name of Klaeod the Crimson, offered to let her stay if she would agree to protect the clan. Grateful for a place to stay, even if only for awhile, Selkhenar agreed.

______ Now, she is lovingly referred to as the "war machine" by most of the clan, due to her size and prowess in combat. She does little for the clan, but Klaeod uncharacteristically doesn't seem to mind, seeing her as more of a deterrent to potential threats than an actual combatant. Since her addition to the clan, patrols have gone down and the usual protectors have been able to find other things to keep them occupied. Selkhenar is grateful that she can provide protection once more, although she requires almost constant company to keep her from going insane from boredom. It takes an enormous amount of food to keep her energetic enough to do much of anything, so she finds herself slow and sluggish most days. Even when she has the energy to act, she often can't, and has friends read to her or tell her stories and tales of events since she was put underground. In exchange, she will tell of how the world was Before, back when she was less remarkable but still notable.
