Their kind came long before the destruction of the pillar, and before the shade when the dragon gods were still warring against each other. As such, the landscape that they fought upon was ever-changing under their elemental influence. Different structures and unstable creatures spawned across the chaos of Sornieth; odd plants and towering tempests grew and hummed with the raw power of the dragon gods. In one grove, the essence of the Gladekeeper and the catalyst of the Shadowbinder overlapped, mingling and weaving something sinister and tangible into the secretive souls of the ancient trees. Dragonkind was not the first child of the gods. The trees watched and grew quickly in odd angles, unsure of their own forms. They stretched and changed as they waited for a purpose, for their creators to acknowledge their accidental existence. The spirits continued to watch as the world around them stilled and slowed, sireing a new variety of sentient life. Watching as plants evolved, animals grew, as communities expanded and died out. When the shade descended again and the gods emerged from their slumber, the trees anxiously protected their ancient forests and waited for a message towards their origin. One never came. Their creators built new life to replace the life that had surrounded the grove for centuries, and the trees began to grow and shift again. Taking on the form of dragons, the creations their sires acknowledged, the secretive souls of the trees uprooted their forms and began to walk and explore Sornieth. Possessing ancient knowledge, the deep set eyes of their shadow mother and the rough bark and lush leaves of their nature mother, the spirits settled among the god’s other creations and pledged to protect the forests that nurtured them: the abandoned lifeforms of the first age. | ........... |
