Biography

He had never spoken to her but he knew that she was his, and he loved her. He also knew that she thought of him the same way. Together, they watched with pride as their children and their children’s children became full fledged members of the lair, found mates of their own, and started families. There were also times when he and she would weep silently; when one of their precious children left. He could recall in particular one instance where one of his beloved children passed away because of illness. For months afterward he felt deeply saddened and cried silently. When he looked at his mate, he could see she too was heart broken: her head seemed to sag and there was pain in her eyes.

Despite these moments of tragedy, life generally treated him well and he was filled with mirth. Hatchlings would come up to him and climb onto his back and he would let them because he loved them. He was always willing to listen, to hear them share their deepest secrets—who they loved, who they were angry at and what their dreams for the future were. They loved to talk to him as well because he would simply listen and never interject.

One night, he was drawn from his thoughts by a scream of terror. The scream was followed by cacophony of sounds including further screaming, fighting, begging and crying. As much as he wanted to rush over and help whoever was suffering, all he could manage was to sit and listen. Did his mate know what was going on? Did she know why such horrible sounds were echoing and resounding from the depths of their cave? Looking up at her, he could see pain and sorrow in her eyes. It reminded him of the loss of their child. After 30 minutes of listening to the sounds of war, all grew quiet… The silence was more deafening than the fighting had been. It weighed heavily in his heart for he was beginning to understand what had happened. His dreaded suspicions were solidified when a beast left the cave, covered in blood. It was carrying an egg. At least twenty more beasts followed carrying other assorted valuables from the clan’s store. The first beast placed the egg at his feet and snarled up at him, taunting him, but he could do nothing except soundlessly weep nonexistent tears.

Long ago, four sculptors were commissioned to create two sculptures to guard the entrance of a small lair. The clan was a peaceful group with very few trained warriors. Since they lack prowess on the battle field, they decided to deter any possible enemies with larger than life statues. The artists were told to create vast Skydancers, a male and a female. The statues were made from magically imbued metals gathered from the Starfall Isles. These metals were known to disperse arcane magic into the air, creating a veil of protection from the outside world. Little did the artists know that the combination of their own determination and hard work alongside their use of magical materials had a curious effect on the statues—self awareness. Upon completion, the statues were placed at either end of a small cave, facing towards each other and were left to guard the small clan of dragons within. Together, the statues and the clan matured, grew and coexisted peacefully.
