Hook's Notes:
Hella is a more recent graduate of House Runesworn than Zvi, and honestly none of us are sure why she's here - though she came to see Zvi, we're not sure how she'd heard of him, and she doesn’t even have a similar degree so we’re not sure why she stayed. They never knew each other before, since they were in entirely different grades, but we all sort of wonder if he wrote a paper about that mass explosion and submitted it to his school and that's why she came, which makes us all even more suspicious about what really caused it... Hella isn't really into science though. Like I said, different degree entirely. She's a mythology nerd. She spends most of her time either buried in a book or trying (and usually failing) to perform an ancient rite or ritual. She'll bore you to death with ancient burial practices and what the Earth Flight believes about the afterlife and other such things that no one cares about, and she gets really excited about archaeological discoveries. She's subscribed to every historical journal out there.

The only upside to all of this is that she's a great story teller. She's really passionate about sharing myths and legends with the younger generations, but she's not a stickler with the details. In the tradition of orists of old, she puts her own spin on all the stories, making them her own. She also knows a lot of ballads, which she'll sing at festivals and things, while Joten plays along on his harp. This usually happens towards the end of the night when everyone is sleepy and full and maybe a little drunk, and between her haunting voice and Joten's rhythmic strumming, it all feels very medieval. And magical. Like goblins and numpties might just peek out of a corner and steal the leftovers off your plate, or else you'll get the much darker feeling, once in your own bed and trying to fall asleep, that some ancient and ethereal being is staring at you out of the ceiling.

Sachin humors Hella's legend-laden beliefs and theories, but the psychics aren't as polite and openly sneer at her attempts to contact the unknown. In the beginning they were willing to try to help her out, thinking she might want to learn from them, but Hella is convinced her books are more right than they are. Now they consider her dabelings "child's play," and Briseis especially tries to steer clear of her "shallow energy." I think Kolos feels about the same, though he doesn't say as much, as he also tried to connect with her in the beginning, and seems slightly uncomfortable, now, whenever she gets to talking about death and ghosts and afterlife. He would know, after all, what it's all really like. He's walked there. So if she doesn't even take his word on things, how much of a scholar is she, really? Aren't true scholars supposed to study real life as well as books? Isn't that how the books get written in the first place?

I think it's mostly that she doesn't believe just one thing. To her, everything is theory, everything is relative, everything is perspective and culture. The psychics and Kolos believe in the truth they see, and think that anyone who sees something contrary to what they see is either a liar, or on something. (Let's be honest though, there's no way that Briseis is clean. That girl obviously smokes a thing or two on the occasion.) I asked Sachin once what she thought. She told me she has a lot of thoughts, and not all of them agree. I asked her if there could really be as many other gods as Hella thinks there is, and if some of them could really be dead, like she thinks some of them are, and Sachin just hummed, deep in her throat, with a small smile playing across her mouth. "You're not going to give me an answer, are you?" I asked. "Hmm," she said again, this time with what sounded like a small chuckle mixed in. "What you are asking about, those are mysteries beyond mysteries. Magic within the magic. Door after door, deeper and deeper, with all the keys lost." "So no one knows?" "I don't know what everyone in this world knows, so how could I answer for all of them?"

Sometimes she's really aggravating, you know?

The second young House, Runesworn, like its twin Shatterspell, takes pride in pushing the boundaries of dragon magic. Searching the small places of Sornieth for forgotten spells and phenomena, they are particularly talented at manipulating and creating charmed or cursed objects, as well, of course, as the study and use of runes.

It is Runesworn who is mostly likely to develop a magical weapon, or find some way of concentrating power into an object. Often, Runesworners plunder the Shadowbinder’s domain for thrown-away artifacts, and the older students conduct a healthy trade with Lightning dragons who don’t mind dealing with temperamental magical machina.

But not everyone looks kindly on Runesworn. While Shatterspell students are dangerous, they do so out of a certain lack of foresight. Runesworn pupils have been caught investigating and experimenting with dark magicks, and even attempting to commune with Shade.
