Biography

SECRET FORBIDDEN OFFSPRING.

Feathers and fur and scales and claws
Breaking instead of obeying the law
Running away with the stolen loot
Covered in ashes and jet-black soot

Killing when needed and lying dark lies
Blood dripping from claws when you take to the sky
The life of an outlaw's not easy to live
No one to be trusted, no mercy to give.

"Mystic?" Two dragons. Presumably royalty. How had they found her? Her majesty found out everyhting; of course. Then these dragons must make up a part of Oceanwatcher's royal fleet. One was a pearly white, with a translucent and stylish rapier at his side. His eyes glowed a piercing red. Mystic recognized him to be Windwhistler. She narrowed her eyes.

Beside him stood Janto,

who looked uncomfortable and very suspicious of her surroundings. While Windwhistler nonchalantly placed a wing over his weapon, she gripped her sword, her blood-red scales glimmering across her rippling muscles. Mystic found this amusing. "All this attention for little old me?" she said mockingly, batting her eyes. She cautiously picked up a vial of poison behind her. Worst comes to worst, Mystic figured wryly, I can always force-feed them some of this. I hope they're thirsty.

Janto growled, but Windwhistler shushed her. "We came about a small issue that we have with dragons... disappearing from their lairs," he said. "And we have reason to believe you're behind it. Now, we didn't want to jump t-" Mystic interrupted. "Sorry. Old habits are hard to break. This talk has been wonderful, but I gotta go. If we can discuss this over tea some other time-" "Right," Janto said, blocking the exit of the lair. Mystic frowned, clutching her poison a little tighter. "Oceanwatcher doesn't particularly like this little habit of yours'. You know, dragons dying and all. It's a bit... inconvenient."

"I'm terribly sorry about that. Really. Apologies. But as I was saying-" "You're not going anywhere," Windwhistler snarled. "This has got to stop. The queen doesn't like it, and neither do we." "Well. Like I mentioned before, I'm sorry. But I was forced into a hard life, whether the queen likes it or not. If she finds my methods of survival-" Mystic paused as she noticed Janto was distracted. The exit began to clear again as she moved aside, fumbling with her sword, which she had dropped. "-inconvenient, then maybe she should've thought before putting a limit on Icicle's breeding choices." With that, Mystic grabbed her pouch and made a run for it, escaping as fast as she could. In her rush, she dropped the vial. The glass shattered on the coral floor as poisonous sludge stained the ground and seeped into the sheepskin rugs nearby. They instantly shriveled and became an ugly black. The last thing Mystic heard was Janto's scream as a bit of the poison touched her scales (clearly she didn't know the difference between poison and venom).

Oh dear, she thought. It's going to be a while until I can return this time.

Assassin looked up at her master. Angry tears blurred her vision. "Give me a second chance,"she growled. "Give me another opportunity and I won't fail you again." Mystic looked down her snout at Assassin. "One time is already too many," she responded coldly. "But you're young. I'll spare your life." She spread out her wings and looked up at the sky. "Come back to me when you've become a professional." Assassin furiously wiped away her tears. "I am a professional. You said yourself when you looked at me that you saw no weakness. You were the one who named me- Assassin. That's what I am. I'm a killer. That's what I'm meant to be, and all that I'm worth. My parents didn't want me. But you did." Mystic shook her head. "You still have one weakness- you desire love. You desire attention. The path of an assassin isn't easy. You must commit. Otherwise, you aren't ready. I was willing to give you a chance when I first saw you- that was your last. Go back to your parents, Assassin. Or find me in a year, maybe two. Maybe five. When you're ready. Don't cry over your failures- learn from them. That's how I know you're not prepared to be an assassin yet." Mystic flapped her wings and hovered above her apprentice for a little longer.

"The difference between the novice and the master
is that the master has failed more times than the novice has tried."

And with that, she was gone.
