B I O G R A P H Y

Maelstrom; the whirling storm of the sea, one the wise stear clear and the brave sail out to face. He earned his name in the storms of the sea, which he ruled and braved for the thrill; caught once in a Maelstrom, the ship splintered, Maelstrom took the plunge into the stormy depths to rescue his companions. Brought in a day later by another ship, somehow still alive, he had not been able to save any other victims of the wreck, but never let it sway him when he went back to sea again.

He started a pirate captain, to loot trade and supply ships crossing the sea, caught up in storms. He joined the ships as a hatchling because of his fascination of the world between the ocean and the sky during the deadly storms between. Although he is a water dragon, and has no need for ships, Maelstrom never liked living under the surface, much preferring to sail above it, in the wilder space between the terrifying depths and the roiling storms and rain.

Although his beginnings were that of a plunderer, Maelstrom soon became aware of the states of affairs on land; the constant wars causing constant refugees, and clanless dragons and hatchlings trying to get away from the fighting. His ship became a smuggling vessel for refugees from one flight to another, trying to escape one war or the next, never charging more than could be afforded by his charges. Even so, Maelstrom never lost his love of the fight, or the thrill from sailing into the heart of a storm.

_PERSONALITY_

____MMaelstrom finds nothing better than the rain on the sea in a storm, and could never settle anywhere without it; the storms of the Shifting Expanse fascinated him to a point, but never attracted him, for he despises the dry desert storms of the land. Although he is a water dragon, he almost pretends not to be: using a ship to cross the ocean, not knowing what's underneath.

____His favourite phenomenon are the stories of ghost ships sailing dragons whisper at night, and the beautiful flashes of St. Elmo's Fire on the eve of a perfect, dangerous storm. Sometimes he tells the tales himself, although not often, mostly because he dislikes staying at port to tell them.

_THE RAINS_

____A dragon like Maelstrom hardly should have ended up in the Dusk Clan by choice; and, in some ways, that is true. Maelstrom is not in the Dusk Clan. He and Tuolos met in the port town while the plunderer was restocking his ship and drinking, and learned all about his ventures to smuggle dragons away from their bad situations. Seeing a common goal, Tuolos offered a partnership of clan and ship, which Maelstrom gladly accepted with some coin in the bargain.

____Maelstrom's ship still saild for itself, but they consider themselves a partnership to the Dusk Clan; his division stay over the ocean in their ship, and don't visit as far inland as the Clan, but the partnership functions smoothly, and Maelstrom named his own faction 'the Rains of the Sea'. Thus began the factions of the Dusk Clan.

_ELDRITCH GROVE_

____After months at sea, Maelstrom stumbles across what he at first believes to be a mirage on the shoreline, a graceful skydancer moving in purposeful motion, seeming to almost blend with the forest around her. He docks and approaches, but she runs, leading him deeper into the forest till he can no longer see the coastline
