Once a beacon of light and fire, Midas was corrupted by the shade either by someone else's wish or her own. The bright yellows and whites she once donned were now as unholy as the darkest shadow, the imperials eyes the only indication of her true alignment.

Suma found her at the cities main entrance, a pile of obsidian, shade poison and a heart still full of love for the Lightweaver. Somehow the entity brought her deep into the cities crumbling depths, where mountain ranges covered the underground world and the thick ooze that Suma secreted ran in rivers, collecting at some massive unknown region, surely at the heart of the unfathomable, underground empire.

Here he...it works on her, trying to restore and repair the light/fire dragon that once was - removing the shade and bringing Midas back. Over years it has managed to give Midas her mind, and most control of her body. The shade still has a hold on her, hence her absence from the surface of Sorienth - her family think her lost, and she wonders if they hate her.

The shade now retreats, everyday falling like dead leaves and ash from the Imperials body. She has been in quarantine her entire time below the surface except to meet Jianguo, who seems to be immune to her affliction/the shade. Jian and Thea try to communicate but it is disturbingly hard, as the midnight dragon(?) does not speak.

Perhaps he is another of Sumas experiments?
