A common idiom states that "the past will come back to haunt you." In the case of Seraphim, this is quite literal.

Born into a devout clan that worshiped the Plaguemother, her foremost desire was to find a mate and with them raise clutches of hatchlings that could be exalted for the glory of her deity. A desire that would never come to fruition.

You see, Seraphim was murdered. Murdered by Dune, a member of the Unrepentant Clan known to outsiders by the moniker of the "Wandering Killer". Nomadic and loathe to be tied down, the Ridgeback had been travelling in Plague territory when he first caught sight of the unfortunate Skydancer.

He saw her as weak, as easy prey. Almost too easy, but it had been weeks since he had last killed, and he was growing impatient. Observing her routine, he picked her off from her clan while she was in the midst of harvesting berries. A quick, clean kill, but enough to satisfy Dune at least temporarily.

The Unrepentant dragon, however, would soon discover why it is a poor idea to murder a devout follower of the Plaguemother who dwells within said deity's sacred lands.

Seraphim returned as a vengeful spirit, who sought nothing more than to destroy her killer. However, she soon discovered that in this form, she was unable to interact with the physical world - she could not be seen or heard, and could not manipulate objects. In short, she could not enact her revenge.

However, she was not so easily deterred. Trailing Dune back to the Clan of Second Chances, Seraphim quickly discovered that the psychopathic dragon was far more fortunate than he had any right to be. His murderous nature was known and accepted by those around him, including his mate.

Yes, his mate. Seraphim was incensed. The sick, twisted dragon who had taken from her that precious chance to mate and bear hatchlings, was happily mated to a Coatl named Thundercloud. In that moment, the nature of her perfect revenge became clear. She would end their mating, and ensure that Dune endured for the rest of his days in loveless misery.

To that end, she possessed the next female outsider who visited the Unrepentant Clan, controlling her thoughts and actions. In control, she compelled this nameless female to make blatant flirtatious advances towards Dune, attempting to seduce him away from his mate. When it was clear that he had no interest, she instead sought to entrap him in a compromising position, so that Thundercloud herself would believe him unfaithful and end their mating.

There were factors at play, however, which she had not considered.

Dune was an asexual dragon, of which his mate was well aware. Their bond was one of sarcastic teasing, wry humor, and mutual support, not one of intimate passion. Hence, Thundercloud knew full well that the female whom she found attempting to seduce her mate was both the instigator and the guilty party.

She drove that nameless female off, reaffirming her bond with Dune. In fact, the pair made a joke of the matter - a twisted joke indeed.

Seraphim will not be deterred so easily, and is determined to sever the bond between the Wandering Killer and his mate. She believes that this can be accomplished through repetition of her earlier scheme - by making advances on Dune in a multitude of forms, she believes that one of them will be alluring enough to tempt the Ridgeback away from his mate.

Even if that plan is to fail, she believes that her failsafe is likewise perfect. After all, no female, not even Thundercloud, will be content to remain with a mate whom she repeatedly catches in compromising positions with other dragons.

Or so Seraphim believes.

Thanks to investigations performed by Dusk, the mated pair are well aware of the existence of their spectral adversary, and are by now familiar with that adversary's goals. The spirit's actions continue to be a running joke between the pair, a joke which grows increasingly humorous the more desperate Seraphim's attempts become.

The vengeful spirit has already begun to understand the futility of her endeavor, and as her frustration grows, she finds herself considering alternate means of ending that infuriatingly idyllic mating. It won't be long before she reaches the end of her patience, and those flirtatious advances become blatant attempts at murder.

The only question now is whether Dune and Thundercloud will realize that their lives are in danger before she finally succeeds.

A few headcanons regarding the nature of draconic ghosts.

Drawn back from the afterlife by either unfinished business, a powerful connection to an evil deity, or a necromantic ritual (or some combination thereof).
Completely incorporeal - cannot be seen or heard, cannot interact with their surroundings.
Can be sensed and identified by telepaths.
Some may be visible to a specific dragon or subset of dragons depending on the nature of their deaths and former lives.
Some possess the ability to possess and control living beings.
Some possess psychokinetic abilities - this subset is known as "poltergeists".
