Writer and Editor of Clan Literature

Family and Background

The name Tiamat is an ancient one given to the female personification of the sea; a virtual oceanic goddess. Being a Pearlcatcher she is quite proud of this name and is happy to tell others of its origins. There are times her mother, being a Bogsneak, has to roll her eyes at the lofty attitudes of Pearlcatchers.

She is the daughter of her Pearlcatcher father, Abalone, and her Bogsneak mother, OrchidShimmer. They are both incredibly proud of her for her intelligence and goals and would love nothing more than to see her succeed. She is the only one of four hatchlings they had that remained in the clan - two of her siblings went to serve the Arcanist and her only brother spread his wings and moved to another clan. Due to this they tend to smother her a little now and then.

Her parents have looked after another nest since then but only had the one egg. This gave Tiamat a new, younger sister named Lagoon. Sadly she did not get to spend much time with her new sibling as Lagoon left to serve the Arcanist as soon as she grew old enough to decide on her own path.

Tiamat is only young still, but she is very smart. Shortly after her hatchday she discovered some literature in her clan's lair and she was instantly enamoured of the written word. She fervently enjoys most types of writing, but is utterly appalled by mistakes regarding spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Clan Role and Goals

As an aspiring writer she strives for writing that will awe, inspire and educate all those that read it. Tiamat greatly dislikes short sentences that have almost no description. She feels that things must be described with the proper amount of words and with the most fitting vocabulary. Most of the others in the clan simply call her picky and obsessive.

Dreaming big, she has decided to reach out to dragons in need of literary help and offer her skills for a small fee. She would be happy to work for free in pursuit of her dream to abolish bad writing, but wishes to help out her clan in some small way besides helping them with their own literary endeavours. Her services can be hired here!

Tiamat one day hopes to visit her brother or have him visit her, and to babysit any hatchlings he may have. It is a secret wish of hers to teach the joys of writing to any nieces and nephews in the future. This wish also extends to any new siblings she may get later in life.

Her goals are very important to her and she's not sure if she wants a mate cutting into her writing time. Tiamat will only consider the possibility if she somehow manages to find a dragon with a love of literature as great as her own. Despite her misgivings on mates cutting into her writing time she would love to have hatchlings of her own that she could pass her passionate goals to.

Clan Life

Unfortunately for Tiamat, she is not the easiest dragon to get along with. If you insult literature within her presence she will aim for your eyes with her claws that she keeps sharp by scratching things into stone. She is not afraid of blood or of getting her claws dirty. Consider this your only warning.

She is actually a very friendly dragon, but maintaining a friendship with her requires patience and understanding. Her father knows this and she enjoys a good relationship with him. Her mother sometimes struggles to understand and this occasionally causes small fights between them. They always end up apologising to each other and life moves on in the clan. The matriarch of the clan, ShadowOrchid, had to get involved once and they've been careful not to let any disputes escalate that far again. Tiamat fears ShadowOrchid in a rage and is not afraid to admit that she wings it when the Fae is on the warpath.

Tiamat adores the clan patriarch, SunStorm, and often goes to him for permission to pull things from the archives and fix them. He's pretty easy going and is happy to have the clan sound smarter than they are on average because she's willing to fix any mistakes. He often saves bits and pieces of writing materials and passes them to her. In return, she sneaks him an extra bit of meat when she can. Win-win situation.

She avoids Luna as he is very arrogant (even as Pearlcatchers go) and is very disdainful of her passion for her work. Luna believes such menial tasks are below a Pearlcatcher and that she would be far better off spending her time with him on a nest looking after his eggs. She hit him with her tail once and apologised for the accident. He never saw the wicked grin she walked away wearing.
