Every few centuries, the Golden Collector stirs. It is both a celebration and a time of fear; for mere mortals, the Golden Hoard is a once in a lifetime experience to gaze upon. But all mortals must hold their possessions close during his wild museum showing; including their own lives.
As an Immortal, Athanas grew tired of conventional extravagance. The normal desires of a living being, tied intrinsically to survival such as food and shelter, were shed after thousands of years. Boredom, the mind killer, began to claw at him. Staring out upon the cluttered mass of junk and knick-knacks he had amassed, inspiration struck. A collection to surpass that of all living beings. The divine collection. The Golden Hoard.
At first, the Collector struck everywhere at once. Multiple heists were organized and successfully performed at once, across oceans. With thousands of years of wealth built up already, the Collector didn't find it difficult to hire an army of talented beings to aid in his great undertaking.
But still, boredom came back. These trinkets were far too easy to obtain by just hiring goon squads to take them. And so, the Collector began to get his hands dirty. By successfully negotiating the purchase of a sacred relic belonging to a long-extinct religion, he felt a surge of accomplishment. By infiltrating the greatest military compounds on the planet, whisking away the experimental biochemicals being developed, he felt satisfaction.
But what gave him the greatest pleasure was showing everything off. And so, once a century, the Golden Collector swings wide the doors to the greatest museum in existence; the Golden Hoard. All living beings are invited, and are free to spend as much time as they pleased within the carefully organized space. The event is a wild festival that can last many weeks straight; for an Immortal, the party never truly stops.
But there was always a loose end for him; the beings he hired knew far too much about his methods. But killing? Ridding the world of a unique living thing? Snuffing out an individual soul, never getting to see what it could have achieved? The very thought of the act made him sick. But...capturing them, and giving them their own exhibits, one filled with every mortal pleasure, their passions and life put on air for all to see...now that, he could do.
After all, if they're part of the collection, they can't stop admiring it, can they?
