Biography

Sunshine
the Brawler
tumblr_inline_o4mbr62dqc1ttfumm_250.png
Uh-oh, looks like this bright battler wandered off from home (Strukla, #90706) to look for new battles! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful.

Sunshine is a big girl. Weighing more than just a few tons, she had no other destiny but to be recruited among the clan brawlers, and she loved it! The sound of fight, steel weapons clashing, armor racketing, it was like the most beautiful song for her. Her name? At first, she disliked it. She'd rather be called "Battleborn", "Bloodbringer" or "Armorbreaker" but when her comrades started chanting her name after battle, it grew on her. Her merits earned her the best armor they could obtain and Sunshine wore it proudly.
Growing up, she started desiring more. More fights, new battlefields, new enemies. The craving grew, and everyone she confessed to suggested her to leave the clan. And so she did, looking for new territories, joining other clans in their training or helping them expand their territory.

Story:

Sunshine came across an Ice clan that looked to have many capable warriors from her stay there she learned more battle tactics. Sunshine also met many other traveling dragons like her, one of the traveling dragons caught her attention however A Purple-green Guardian who seemed to be annoyed by everything going on around him. She went over to him and asked his name, his response was "Nameless". She was confused by that, why would anyone be named Nameless?

He explained to her that his parents kicked him out of his home clan without giving him a name and now he's on a journey to find a name, but he hadn't had any luck so far. Sunshine explained to Nameless that she'd try her best to help him find a name and that she wished to accompany him on his journey, he agreed and told her that they'd be heading off to a new clan soon. She nodded showing him that she understood and quickly began packing up her things before they headed off. -ApostasiaAin

Now with a traveling partner, Sunshine more than ready to take on harder challenges with someone around to lend a claw. However she wasn't expecting to end up at such a boring place right away, the ice clan known as the Sunflakes Alliance wasn't very battle oriented and she found it pretty hard to find any fun things to do while they were staying. She did hear whispers of a camp up the cliff that housed an army of exalt rejects but it wasn't open to outsiders. It was a bit disheartening to hear but she tried to make a good thing out of a bad situation and find something else not related to fighting to do.

She had left Nameless to visit the shops and tents at the bottom of the cliff and didn't quite find anything that interested her. That was until she felt someone gazing at her from one of the tents, a mostly white pearlcatcher with eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. The pearlcatcher, Heather as I had later learned, invited me into her tent and introduced herself as a matchmaker. I was a bit skeptical of her notation of being able to to read others souls and pair them with their soulmate. She asked me if I loved someone and I said no, she then proceeded to tell me love wasn't too far out of my reach. Could she be talking about Nameless? Surely she couldn't, I bore no feelings of love towards him, admiration for what he does sure but not love. Besides the brute was too busy finding a name to think about love himself. All in all it was a bizarre experience but the only one that really stuck with me before we left for another clan. - IceOtter

They arrived back at Nameless's home layer with much trepidation. She didn't know what was going to go down here, but she knew that here he would get some closure. She left him to talk to his parents while she went to socialize with some of the other dragons. through them she heard about the lair purge and wondered if that was how Nameless had been separated from his family. Then he came back to her and told her the whole story and her suspicions were confirmed much to her dismay. What a horrible way to lose your family. But then he told her of the name they had given him and was so proud. Warrior was the perfect name for him after all of his struggles.

He informed her later that he wished to continue traveling and she agreed. Being home he said was nice for a while, but they had had a taste for adventure and there was no going back. They were ready to head off. They didn't know when or if they would be back, together or separate. But they knew they would have a great time. ~brightredjem

A sudden snowstorm separated Warrior from Sunshine and caused the Guardian to be injured. The wind of the storm carried her off near the Sunflakes Alliance where they once visited. She was unconscious for quite some time and once she came to she started looking for Warrior despite her injuries. She made a brief visit to the cliffside Clan before she went off looking for Warrior again.-IceOtter

Tenent
Still looking for her guardian companion, Sunshine wandered until her injuries reopened, and her wings felt weak. She came crashing down in the middle of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, swimming on and eventually walking- stumbling really- when she finally found land once more. She finally collapsed at the edge of the Driftwood Drag, too drained to move any further.

When she opened her eyes once more, it was dark. She was in a twilight-strewn garden, sprawled upon soft grass and cobblestone. Finding she was able to stand once more, she got up, searching about until she found a dark-toned mirror who was cheerfully tending to the manicured flower beds.

"What is this place? However did I manage to get this far into the Tangled Woods?"

The mirror turned over, unsurprised at her presence or her question. "This is the Tangled Wood Tenements, a sort of... last chance house for dragons who have lost their way. As for how you got here.... you wouldn't believe me if I told you." He shook his head, his ear flaps fanning out and waving wildly with the motion.

Perplexed, she pressed him further. "...Well then, how do I leave again? I feel much better than I did previously. I can't even feel any of my injuries."

His eyes sharpened, focusing in on her despite having no pupils. "Just how strong is your will to live? What do you live for?"

The question took her by surprise. "I live to fight. I am going to travel to every clan to train, and to help free them of beastclan interlopers. Despite any losses I may take, I will continue to fight until I manage to beat the odds."

The mirror paused, considering. "Very well. It seems a warrior's spirit is kindled inside you. Follow the path through those trees-" Here he gestured at a patch of twisted conifers. "You will most likely see a gate in the fence. Take it, and be prepared for the fight of your life. It's not an easy road."

She took a step in the direction he pointed, and stopped, turning back to look at him. "Why don't you show me the way?"

"I cannot. I am unable to leave this place." His tail lashed, his calm facade slipping for an instant to reveal deep-seated frustration. Sunshine felt her fighting instincts flair up, wanting to topple such injustice, trample it into the dust! Seeing the glint in her eyes, the mirror instantly ceased moving, the calm, collected face slipping back into place. "No, no. There is nothing you can fight here. I am too far gone from the world of the living. I cannot return. But you- you have only arrived here. Your body has only just hit the dirt- and your will is strong. You can return. It won't be easy, but with such strength you can surely make the journey." He nodded once more in the direction of the supposed gate.

She paused still, looking him in the eyes. "I will enjoy life for you. I will live to the fullest because you can't." Finally, she stepped towards the gate, and with a rush of speed, bounded past the trees.

She wasn't sure how much time passed before she woke up, gasping and sore, laying once more on the shore of the Driftwood Drag where she had first collapsed. She was still wounded, bleeding, and weak, but her resolve was strong. She would not let even death stop her again. She would fight!
~Tazno

Soon after restarting her journey, she caught wind of a faint yet familiar scent. It smelled sweet and gave her a somewhat nostalgic feeling. Having no other choice or object to orient herself on, she followed it.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only scent around. Her wounds left a trail of blood that soon attracted a pack of wild Mirrors. They didn't attack immediately, as even as wounded as she was, she was still a formidable opponent, and much bigger than any of them. But they kept on following her day in and out, snarling and sneaking up on her when they could to bite her leg or scratch her tail before running back to the safety of numbers. She fought back, kicking one in the head and even turning around at one point to growl back, spreading her wings and looking more intimidating than ever in her size. But as soon as they'd fall back and give her a bit of space, she'd turn around to continue and they were right back behind her again. Despite what she said in that dreamy place and her determination, she too knew that by the end of this day, she'll have to stop and rest, and then it'll all probably be over for good.

And so it was. One shaky step in the middle of a beautiful grassy steppe proved to be her last as she collapsed on the ground, breathing heavily and in pain. The pack's long pursuit paid off and they wasted no time attacking. She managed to strike one in the leg with the last swing of her tail and grab one obvious youngster by the neck as he made the mistake of attacking her from the front. The youngster was thrown off but all of her struggle was useless as there were too many of them. What a pitiful sight, for a warrior like her to die like a common prey. A last cry of frustration left her lungs, not as loud as her battle cry, but still louder than that of a common dragon, before her head fell down and she closed her eyes, drifting away to eternal oblivion once again.

The ground beneath her shook. What was that? There was a scream, or more like, a cry. Like a call for battle. More shaking. The pain was wearing off, too. Was this what real dying felt like? It seemed different from the first time, she thought, but didn't open her eyes. She must be dreaming of the times she spent with her lair comrades, fighting, clashing with the enemy, looking someone in the eye and knowing it's you or them... "If this is a dream that's going to take me to the other side, I'll gladly accept my fate.", she thought and then thought no more.

Somebody was nudging her. Was it Nameless? Probably, as he was standing in the darkness in front of her, contrasting it with his magnificent colors. Wait... How could she forget? He wasn't Nameless no more, he was Warrior, a proud Guardian and a good friend. Nudging her to get up, get up and follow him, but where? There was only blackness around them.
"Told you she'd wake up. She's stronger than all of this." A voice in the background. That's not Warrior. The image of him faded and she opened her eyes, slowly gathering in the light and the fact there was no black void around her but two heads of dragons she remembered from her lair, a certain Imperial and another Guardian that definitely wasn't Warrior.

"How you doin', peaches?", asked the Imperial. She gave him a baffled look before trying to get up, but plopping back down like a bag of cement. "Easy there, tigress, you're too fresh from the fight to get up and run about.", he commented. "As I see you're back with us, I'll leave Lazar here to fill you in. I have to tend to the young additions to the brawl section." As the Imp left, the Guardian started his story. Story about how they were lucky to ran into her while doing the routine checkup of the clan borders, how her last cry made the pack's blood run cold and how this was a great first-time fight for the clan newcomers. How she really is among the clan's toughest fighters considering she'll live to tell the tale. And, with a mischievous grin, how she called for a name unknown to them while recuperating.

Sunshine growled at the teasing Guardian; she merely saw a friend and called out for him, nothing else. So, she stumbled back home. That's why the scent seemed so familiar, eh? Still, it'll be more than just a few days before she's back on her feet and ready to decide what to do next, he told her. Yet she already knew what she'll do next; she'll continue her journey as soon as she's able to, and while on it, try to find Warrior. This is a big world, and the clans owning the lands are numerous, yet it's not that big for a girl of her size. Somewhere, someone had to hear a word about Warrior, and will manage to direct her towards him. After all, travelling in pair is more fun, she told herself. ~Strukla

As the day rolled around for Sunshine to go on her way, she decided that the best places to start on her look for Warrior would be places that many travelling dragons would pass through. Places that, even if she didn't find Warrior himself, she would be much more likely to bump into someone who had seen him. She bid adieu to her home clan, and she departed on her journey, stopping at as many taverns and inns and hostels and trading posts as she possibly could, and this was how she ended up meeting Desmond.

She had been looking for something called The Magic Potion when she had come across him in the moorish forests, the bogsneak having just finished collecting his trappings, with the carcasses of many creatures draped across his long back. She had heard him before she saw him, hearing a hum of a cheerful tune. He had apparently also seen her before she had seen him, as he called out to her.

"Haven't seen you 'round before, are you lost?"

At first, she was guarded, taking a stance that prepared her for a hit. She wasn't scared, but these were unknown lands, and this was an unknown stranger - she couldn't afford to not be careful.

"Relax, there," came the voice again, sounding amused. "A lot of folk come passing through here, looking for the Magic Potion and getting themselves lost. I'm headed that way myself, I'd be happy to show you to it."

Sunshine let herself relax some, taking a big breath. "That's where I'm heading," she allowed. "If you'd show me the way, it'd be much appreciated."

And so he did, and all the while Desmond told her stories, or talked to her about nonsense. It eventually got to the point where she wished he would just shut up, although she felt it'd be rude to ask her guide to do that. Eventually, however, they reached a small settlement. There was an Inn, a library/museum, an antiques store, a trading post, and according to the hand-carved and shoddy sign in the middle of the - she was hesitant to call it a town - a witch's hut (labelled as "far away"), and a residential area (with "swimming lake!!!" written underneath it).

"Now, it's only late afternoon, you're not likely to find much entertainment yet, but if it's a room you want, head over to the Magic Potion and Evanel would be more than happy to set you up. I've got business to attend to."

As Desmond made his way to the trading post, Sunshine made her own way to the tavern, peaking in through a glass window before entering. Through the window she could see a guardian dancing while sweeping, and a fae lounging on top of a piano. Amused, she entered, interrupting whatever routine had found themselves in.

"Are either of you Evanel?"

The two stared at her, and for a moment Sunshine worried she had found the wrong place, but as the fae, appearing annoyed, zipped off into the back, the other guardian smiled gently at her.

"Don't mind Chieko, the lazy thing. She's just gone off to fetch Evanel. I'm Lasciel."
"Sunshine. Pleased to meet you."

As Chieko and Evanel returned, Sunshine got set up with a room, Chieko continuing to shoot her glares. Sunshine headed to her room to unwind for a bit, her muscles sore from the travelling days, and when she awoke again, the sun had begun to set, and she could hear music coming from the main part of the building.

She readied herself and took a breath, preparing for an evening of sleuthing. As she was just about to head down the flight of stairs, a skydancer whizzed past her, sobbing, followed by a coatl calling out apologies to her. Sunshine stepped in front of the coatl, giving him a stare down.

"You didn't do anything to her, now did you?"

"What?!" he asked, a mixture of annoyed and shocked, trying to step around her. "N-no, I would never! She's just had a bit much to drink and got upset when I said she couldn't have any more for the evening!"

Sunshine stared him down, trying to find the truth in him, but as she saw him fighting to get a ring off to offer to her (the peace-making metalic gift, she was sure), she just rolled her eyes and stepped over him. This was most definitely not a culture she was well versed in.

The main room was a bustle of activity. Chieko was now performing, singing in a way that only a fae would be able to, remaining both monotonous and melodic, and around her there was dancing, yelling, laughing, and quite a bit of noise.

Sunshine took a deep breath and got to work, going through the crowd and keeping her eyes open for Warrior, but no where could she see his likeness. After a while of searching she took a deep breath and began to describe him to others, wondering if they had seen him. After a while, it became obvious that they had not. No one had. Discouraged, and a bit saddened, Sunshine stepped out for some air. In the cool night air she could breathe a bit better, and didn't feel quite as tense.

She peered in through the window, watching the night go on, watching happy couples dance and laugh and she felt a pang in her chest. This place wasn't where Warrior was, or would be, and it wasn't where she should have been, either. She made sure she had all her belongings on her, and after confirming that she in fact did, she took a few steps away from the Inn and lifted up into the air, letting the night air carry her away. ~nickadee

Sunshine found herself in a lair whose coliseum party was lead by a burly, scarred guardian just like her. "It's not enough to use brute force," he told her, gesturing briefly to the old wounds on his shoulders and flank. "I learned that the hard way. Know your strengths. Use your enemies' weaknesses against them."

She trained with them for a few months before heading on, feeling stronger and more ready to tackle the challenges that lay ahead. ~FirozTaverbi

One day, as Sunshine's journey took her across the border into the Sunbeam Ruins, she was confronted with the sight of two majestic sanguine imperials hooking their teeth into the bodies of a troop of serthis. Eager to fight at the side of other dragons, she joined them, and as she leaped into the fray she saw relief in their eyes to have a bigger, more skilled body on their side.

Once the fight was over, they introduced themselves as Nim and Nirn, and told her that they belonged to a clan residing in the Mirrorlight Promenade, where they could offer her a place to rest if she so desired it. Gratefully taking up their offer, Sunshine let herself be lead into the marble ruins and towards the grounds the group had carved out for itself.

Though she had sometimes been wanting for spaces that better accommodated her size since leaving her homeland, she was a bit surprised- and at the same time, relieved- to find herself in a clan so dominated by towering imperials. She was quite happy to find that there were others that matched her fighting prowess, which she discovered upon meeting the general and the young matriarch. Being of a generous demeanor, the matriarch offered Sunshine a sizable den to call her own for however long she wished to stay, and told her she was welcome to join them in the coliseum whenever she liked. It was only after her delight subsided that she remembered to ask them if they had seen Warrior, but even after a thorough description none of the higher-ups in the clan had any good news for her.

"I can put out the question to the rest of the clan, in case anyone has seen him while scouting or gathering," the matriarch said with sympathy, "But as unfortunate as it is, I wouldn't get your hopes up, if I were you." Sunshine tried to contain her disappointment and focus on the bright side that she had found capable dragons to battle with, but the fact that she was having no luck with her journey to find Warrior again put a damper on her mood, even during training. After a while she decided it was time to move on, in hopes she could turn up something elsewhere, and as she left, the general- who had been mostly silent for the time she was there- wished her luck, and told her that what was meant to be would come to her in the end. ~GentlePsychic
