Biography

What started as a fleeting interest in dramatics, quickly became a burning passion for Markham. When he watched a play in his youth, listening to the witty soliloquies and passionate dialogue, the young Imperial knew that he wanted to write a piece just like the one he'd watched.

And so he spent his time studying reading, writing and the classics to help him achieve his goal of being a distinguished playwright, learning the differences between tragedies, comedies, and satire. He joined an acting company as soon as he was able to, to gain a hands on experience on what the theatre was like, eager to absorb as much information as he could.

Although the theatre culture of Sornieth is often neglected, many are still good patrons to the performing arts and friends of the actors. Markham soon found his way, climbing the ranks of the company and found a space where he could truly earn his living as an actor and playwright on the Windswept Plateau.

He and his company managed to get the funds to build their own theatre, in the Cloudsong and settle there.

When he was first able to sit and dedicate his time to writing his plays uninterrupted, Markham’s writing mimicked that of what he'd read during his classical studies and while his plays were successes, he was often critiqued that his work felt old-fashioned and while conventional, it was also a touch stagnant.

But the Imperial was incredibly innovative, adapting the traditional style of writing and weaving it to his own purposes and creating a freer flow of dialogue and acting.

His newer works have revolutionized the world of theatre and he is a deeply respected dragon of the dramatic arts.

Today, his plays are highly popular, studied by the old and young, reinterpreted in performances with diverse cultural and sometimes political contexts. Markham’s characters are truly alive, displaying a wide range of emotions, conflicts, and resolutions that are believed to transcend their time, to be loved my dragons for years to come.
