ABOUT HIMSELF

______ It’s an inside joke in the MadHouse. Beware, dragons with crystalline scales, or wings like faceted gems! If Smaug sees you, he’s going to keep you! Of course, every time Smaug hears it, the one who said the joke in for a smack in the head. Smaug won’t correct the joker though - how could he? The last time he tried, Guivre hadn’t been able to stop giggling at him, and had gestured towards herself with a wry look. Well, you’ve certainly kept me, haven’t you?

______ Smaug is the leader of the MadHouse clan. Despite what one might expect from the clan’s name, he isn’t insane. Unless you count his maybe not-so-healthy, borderline obsessive desire for gold. The fire dragon adores all things shiny - other than the aforementioned gold, he loves gems, crystals, his wife Guivre… He loves the last one the most, and the red-and-gold dragon of light is his most beloved treasure of all.

______ Other than his greed and love of shiny things (and dragons), Smaug can certainly be said to be a little arrogant and remarkably confident. He has reason to be so proud of himself though; he is particularly intelligent, and an especially skilled leader. A strict one, at that - he doesn’t allow any breaking of the rules, and makes sure that anyone who steps too far out of line is punished accordingly. Between him, and his kind, gracious Guivre, the leaders of MadHouse perfectly complement one another and lead their clan well.

______ When he first emerged from his egg, his scales, red like blood, and his maroon wings both held the gleam of metal; as he grew, he became a striking figure to look at, and his scales were so clear and reflective one could see their appearance reflected in them. Smaug was proud of his appearance. Or at least, he had been. Nowadays, his tough scales and impressively large wings are like cooled magma - make no mistake, though, for his spirit still burns bright and hot underneath the grey shell, and fittingly enough veins of molten lava seem to spring forth from his body, burning and oh-so-bright, not to mention ever-so-striking to look at.

______ Before his body took on the appearance of the cooled magma ever-present in his current home in the Blacksand Annex, he had been travelling. Once he felt that emptiness deep, deep in his soul, just like his mother had told him, he knew it was time to start his Search. And start he did - that very same day, he informed his mother that he was leaving to find his ward, and so he did. He Searched for his ward, the one thing or dragon he was born to protect, and for days he flew over the Emberglow Hearth, his keen eyes on the lookout for his ward. After a few days, he saw - something, something that made him grin. The unmistakable gleam of the gold that he so loved, and the breathtaking shine of the firelight on the many facets of a gem. (It was a wonder, Smaug sometimes thought, that his ward wasn’t a treasure chest, or something. He definitely thinks his actual ward is worth far more to him than any treasure.) Smaug swooped down, landing on the ash-dusted earth, only to be met with a surprising sight.

______ Before him, basking in the sunlight and wreathed by the glow of the everburning fires of Emberglow, was a dragon. A female skydancer, breathtaking with her gleaming scales of gold, and glimmering wings of ruby. He had felt so very drawn to her, like there was a string linking his soul to her, and he felt his hopes begin to rise. Could it be? Was his Search at its end? When the skydancer turned to him inquisitively and her eyes met his, he felt like a fire had burst into existence where the emptiness in his soul once was. “Why, hello,” the skydancer had greeted politely, a gentle smile on her face. “I’ve never seen you around these parts, though you’re clearly a Fire dragon… Not from around here, are you? It’s nice to meet you, my name is Guivre. What’s your name, Guardian?” Guivre, hearing the name filled his soul with giddy joy as he truly realised that his Search was over, he’d found his ward. He knew without a shadow of a doubt that this skydancer, Guivre, who looked like a treasure in and of herself, was his ward, his to treasure and his to protect for the rest of his days.

______ To this day, the spot where he met his ward, his treasure and now his wife, Guivre, is the heart of his new clan, the clan he founded with her - the MadHouse.

______ Smaug was the first dragon of my Clan and therefore he is the leader. Actually he just landed on this part of the Emberglow Hearth, because on his journey, also known as 'The Search' Smaug saw a gleam of gold and many-faceted crimson red gemstones from above.
His interest in shining things and treasures brought him to a landing, where he found a female Skydancer sitting in the sun ... Her colors sparkled in the sun like pure jewels and before he realized it, he was completely drawn towards her. He kind of sensed that he had discovered his purpose and so his new life as a true dragon began.

______ His personality is portrayed as confident, intelligent, a little bit arrogant and greedy, possessing an unquenchable desire for gold and particularly for his wife Guivre. Altogether he is a remarkable leader with the necessary strictness and together with his gracious wife, they take all dragons in who need their help or a home.
