Elaine

Personality:

Bubbly is most often the word used to describe Elaine with Outgoing coming in at a close second. Her charming smile coupled with the gentle and attentive nature of her species are Elaine's best assets, and she puts them to work in her duties as the Clan's greeter. She is the first point of contact for all visitors to the Clan, and by the time she is done showing them around Elaine would have succeeded in gaining herself new friends and networks. Aside from being the epitome of a social butterfly, Elaine has a curiosity streak a mile wide and is always on the lookout for new experiences. Being a master at convincing others to join in with these latest ventures, Elaine is also often busy with planning out different activities for herself and her group of friends. It can be as simple as pottery or even training to defend against Beastclans as she is open to trying out everything at least once.

However, even though she possesses the ability to put anyone at ease or make them feel important, Elaine is not without her detractors. There are those that are eager to claim that her saccharine sweetness (often said in sarcastic tones) is insincere. Once she makes up her mind, Elaine has a hard time taking no for an answer, and this is a habit that has rubbed some the wrong way. While Elaine only has the best intentions at heart, nobody likes constant and unsolicited advice on how to improve. Thanks to her revolving door of hobbies, her enemies have accused Elaine of being fickle as she's always jumping from one project to the next.

On her part, Elaine will gently brush away such remarks if they come to her attention. A firm believer that an angry exchange of words will not change the situation, Elaine resolves to carry on as is. She has friends aplenty and a loving mate and no time to worry about negativity. More than that she believes that everyone has the potential to be good (even those who gossip and seem jealous of her) and she will go out of her way to convince them of it.

Backstory:

For someone with such a cheerful and optimistic disposition, Elaine was born into a harsh and nightmarish winter landscape. Her original lair had made its home at the base of the Cloudscrape Crags, but even that did not make it safe from the biting wind and unforgiving snowstorms. To survive, the generations of Skydancers who populated that humble little village grew crystalline edges on the fur of their bodies and the feathers of their wings. Even though this made it a little harder to fly, members of the Clan could easily blend in with the plentiful glaciers that surrounded their home making it easier for them to hunt or hide depending on the situation. As the long years passed and the village prospered, many came to know about the beauty of the Skydancers that lived there. It became a point of pride for these dragons, and they would hold contests of skill to pick the Clan's ambassador.

From a young age, Elaine was subject to the speculation that she could be the next in line to hold the coveted position of ambassador. She was a dragoness of surpassing beauty, her coloration of sanguine and caramel making her stand out from her contemporaries. Her friendly and outgoing demeanor made her pleasant company, and it seemed that everything was working in Elaine's favor. The reality, however, was far from perfect as not only did she attract many admirers but jealousy as well. While living in the village, Elaine had a best friend named Ruth. They hatched at around the same time and played together as hatchlings. They were inseparable, and she would never have guessed that she was confiding in who would be her worst enemy. Ruth was tired of living in Elaine's perfect shadow and the closer they got to the contest, she put her plans into motion.

Rumors began to spring up about Elaine and Ruth pinned the blame on another dragoness. She made sure that Elaine grew distraught at the malicious stories before egging her friend on to vengeance. Together they hatched a plan to scare their enemy with a Buttersnake, but when the time came, Ruth switched out the harmless animal with an Opal Cobra instead. Unaware of the switch, Elaine bought the basket containing the Cobra home. That night, while intending to give the Buttersnake some food, she was bitten. The bite of an Opal Cobra could cause the onset of Gembond in dragons, and after suffering through a week of fever, Elaine found her arms legs, neck and wing feathers covered in crusty ivory gems. Mortified and hurt that Ruth would go to such lengths to betray her, Elaine left as she was unable to stomach living in the village with such memories.

She crossed the sea but instead of going to the Reedcleft Ascent, Elaine headed towards the Sunbeam Ruins instead. She hoped that the scholars of the Light Flight could help her with her affliction, but what she found was a home and a mate instead. Cavae was adventurous and brash and took Elaine's breath away when she saw how compassionate he was to the hatchlings and young dragons of the Clan. He served as the chief motivation for Elaine to stay in the Sunbeam Ruins and his bravery and determination inspires her to do no less. While she would never be a warrior like her mate, Elaine is determined to keep positive and spread goodness instead of negativity. She never wants to pay attention to rumors again or give in to the temptation to get revenge as she stands to lose more now than just a petty title.
