"Grab a blanket brother
So we don't catch cold From one another I wonder if we're stuck in Rome"
⚔ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Please, I beg you! His cries fell only onto the cold, damp ground. The air was still, the trees did not echo a word. He fumbled to look up at the three figures surrounding him. No matter how he tried to shout or scream, all he could hear was a muffled ringing in his ears. We should get rid of him. The female Guardian hissed and refused to look at him. After what he's done, going against everything we've- Please! He cried out once more. Tears streamed down the Spiral's face. He reached out to touch the Guardian's paw. She withdrew abruptly, digging her claws through the dirt. Against the blur of his tears, he watched her giant maw open, the tint of a flame boiling inside. Artemis. The male Guardian imposed himself between them. Before this gesture he had stayed so unnervingly still, Nickel mistook him for one of the trees. The new Guardian swung his head towards him, a motion which rippled against the forest's humidity. Nickel could barely make out the feature's of his captor's skull. Only the intensity of emerald eyes glowing from the shadows of the canopy. Nickel shrunk to the ground. I...I didn't know. He started, looking away from the giant's gaze. How was I supposed to know? You tricked me! The Guardian stared. Nickel gasped for air, he curled his body, writhing in the heat. I'm begging you, he choked on his words. Let me find her. I need to see her. The Guardian's great neck curled back to address his companion. A low growl rumbled among their company. but Nickel's eyes stung with desperation that he could not see. Finally, the third voice uttered softly: Let him bring her here. To the seeds. The silhouettes of the three figures flickered with the dappling light. Nickel crawled further towards them. Arching his back, he bowed for his captors as tears continued to slip from his scales, into the earth. Please, she's all I have left... The words rolled off his tongue clear and crisp, as beautiful as music. Then, his muscles eased. His head hit the ground, and he closed his eyes. The branches of the trees swayed and lamented from above. Funny, he didn't recall there being a breeze. --- Gripping the stem with his jaw, he pulled the weed from its hill of dirt and sat back on his hind legs to survey the newly cleared patch. The weed hung between his teeth as he smiled. He spat it into a bucket, and patted the fresh earth back down. "Planting more company for your seed?" His neighbor called over. She grinned from beneath her own tree, one paw at its trunk, but all four eyes facing Nickel. "Just preparation," he hummed back, before continuing with his work. He inspected a large, curling root, and flicked his tongue to its bark. He peeled back a few spots to snack on some beetles, and with a satisfied sigh, covered the root again. He moved on to the next root, and the next, until he drew himself up to their magnificent source. Nickel looked to the fruit dangling lengths above. Their golden tint was greater than any sunrise, and Nickel knew they would make the Behemoth proud. A few inspired lyrics came to him, and he quickly carved the thoughts into the trunk to save for another day. |
