From the first day he was born Bao was treated like a monster. His species had always been known for their brutality. He had been sold right after he was born, separated from his parents before he even knew their names or memorized what they looked like. He wouldn't know either until he was well into his adulthood.

Growing up in a Shadowclan was difficult for him. He was starved and beaten when he was young and small, and he slowly became more and more aggressive. He was just reaching 2000kg when an Imperial made the mistake of teasing him with a steak. Bao broke his chain in his fury and fatally wounded a dragon four times his size before anyone could reach them.

Instead of being punished, Bao was rewarded. The clan saw him as another way to control others, a way to harness others fear to motivate them to follow their orders. From then on, Bao was often dragged out from hiding and walked through other territories on a chain. If anyone were to ever oppose their intrusion, Bao's escorts would let go of the chain and issue an order to kill them. He never had a choice.

It was late one night not long after they had first started using him as an executioner. A horrible way to go. They never had any chance, locked in a cage with a dragon sometimes many times their size, unarmed and scared. Their last moments were always the roar of the crowd, spurred on by the sight of blood, and the piteous look in Bao's eyes as he gently laid them down to die with some semblance to dignity. Bao was in his cell when he heard hushed whispers and fumbling. The door swung open to reveal a group of dragons not from his clan.

They were all armed with various weapons, but they made no move toward him when they discovered he was awake. They raised their weapons nervously, fearing his approach. They had come to end his life to save their clans.

"Step away from that door," His deep rumble of a voice startled them. He had never spoken to any of them before. "and I will leave this place. You will never have to hear from me again." He didn't have to see them glance at his chains to know they knew of his captivity. It had always been apparent when he was constantly in shackles.

A nervous Wildclaw was the first to give in, slowly shuffling away from the door. She stood in the corner of the room, as far away from him as possible. The act of one brought on another and she was followed by a shaking Pearlcatcher that called softly to his mate. "Aloft. Aloft, follow me, it's okay."

Soon, only one stood in the doorway. A Fae. The last to stand her ground. Her chest puffed out in an unspoken challenge, but she faltered quickly when he broke his chains, snapping the iron like wood splinters. She didn't have the chance to move before Bao did. One moment she was standing in his way, the next she was dangling by her feet in his claws, shrieking. Bao offered the Fae to a terrified Spiral, dangling the poor creature in his face.

"I believe this belongs to you." The Spiral nodded shakily and gently took her from his hands, pulling her close as if he had only just realized how close he came to losing her. Before the Fae could protest, Bao was gone. He had vanished into the night to take full advantage of his newfound freedom.
Bao quickly took up the job of a mercenary, and was payed well as expected. He hit only the baddest of the bad, the nasties that even mercenaries thought were immoral. He was always on the clock, even if he didn't have a current job. That derg mugging a poor Fae? Nope, not any more. Was that guy being a little too handsy with the lady just trying to get home? Nah, he didn't see nothing. She says she didn't either. Did someone just take that poor blind dragon's bag? No way, look it's sitting right there. Those stains are ketchup.

Bao was most definitely a bad guy, but he was good at it. Save someone here, kill someone there. He wasn't always appreciated, but he was needed. Soon, others began coming to him with their problems. That poor stalked Skydancer is free to travel alone, that poor Fae no longer has an unfair debt, and that Snapper will never find his home empty again if that thief knows what's good for him. But one day, he was approached with a different problem.

A strange Pearlcatcher caught him on the street, caught his attention with a simple, "I need your services." In a darkened alley he pulled Bao as close as he could manage being not even one tenth of his size. "You like helping people?" The whispered words were dark and suspicious, but Bao was used to shady characters.

"For a price, hotshot." His reply was gruff and common. He often had to remind people that he didn't do this out of the good of his heart. The Pearlcatcher muttered something that was bound to be insulting without a doubt under his breath and glanced around.

"Look, I've got some gem I can promise you when the job's done, but once I tell you there aint no backing out!" Bao was silent, and his 'client; took it as a go ahead. "There's this institute, they're working on something big. Word on the street is they found ways to change you. They can change your color, your genetics, hell, even your breed." Bao interrupts him with a rough chuckle.

"You think I'm that stupid? Go find someone who will believe your conspiracy theories." But as Bao turned to leave, a picture was thrust in his face. It wasn't of the best quality, but he could make it out. Cages, rows and rows of cages filled with hatchlings. Some of them were bandaged, others looked just fine, and all of them looked terrified. But only one caught his eye. A small Spiral, a runt probably, was slumped against the bars of the cage, an arm dangling limply from between them. There was no doubt in Bao's mind that it was dead.

"Where did you say this institute was?"

Bao had no mercy. He tore through the labs, viciously attacking anyone and anything he saw. Many of them were still conducting experiments when he rushed into the room. He caught many red handed with a rather unfortunate familiar undergoing some painful tests. He bashed every cage open as he went, storming through long white hallways are breaking down every door along the way.

He broke the door to the last room open with more force than any of the others, although it wasn't necessary. He rushed to the cages, but only realized the consequences of barging in guns blazing when he got a look of what was inside. The main lab had caught wind of his arrival and disposed of all the evidence, setting fire to the lab and shredding the papers. Every cage held only a motionless lump. There was nothing to save.

Bao slumped down, defeated, but nearly snapped his neck in hopeful desperation when he heard a weak whimper from behind a door next to the rows. In his haste, he hadn't noticed the last cage. The only empty one.

He burst through the door in a wild panic, eyes falling upon the last researcher in the institute, holding a needle to a hatchling's neck in a silent threat. Their eyes locked, and Bao knew only one thing. This wasn't a hostage situation, the researcher needed it dead. If he tried negotiating, the hatchling would die anyway.

He lunged. The Nocturne didn't even have time to react. The syringe slipped from his claws and he hit the floor. He thrashed in an attempt to escape, but only managed to smack his tail on a shelf, upsetting the vials and tubes of chemicals stored atop the furniture. With a thud, one vial fell over and slowly rolled across the top until reaching the edge of the shelf.

It hit the floor with the sound of shattering glass, covered by the screaming of the Nocturne and Bao's enraged shrieking. Bao was only interrupted from his furious shredding by a high pitched cry of pain.

The chemicals in the vial had splattered over the young dragon, and his hide smoked as it ate away at his scales. Bao wiped the toxic sludge off with his own wraps, which it burned right through. The hatchling whimpered as he picked him up, nestling him between his wings to keep him away from the flames.

Bao ignored the Nocturne's groan of pain and fled the building, leaving the wicked beast to burn along with almost all the evidence of what he had done.

He rushed the hatchling to a healer, desperate to find a way to repair the Mirror's scales. Not only did the healer say the scales were permanently gone, she had no way of healing him if they didn't know what had hit him.

Bao found a place at a seedy inn for he night and put the hatchling to rest. He stayed up the entire night waiting for him to die from his wounds. He paced across the floor and lashed his tail about in a agitated manner, occasionally striking the walls. The neighbors often hit the walls and complained in muffled voices, but he ignored them.

Morning came, and the hatchling woke. Bao was shocked to see that not only had the little Mirror survived the night, where his wounds once were there were now smooth patches of crystal.

When he decided that the little guy would survive the injury, he gave him a name. Eros. Love. For the way he always clung onto his hide like he would float away, or the overly fond idolizing looks. He couldn't help but feel that he had become a father figure.

He takes Eros everywhere with him, never letting him out of his sight. He is seen as overly protective and aggressive, and often is not accepted in many circles. He has settled down only to move multiple times.

Many dragons fear that he is a danger to Eros and try to lure him away or forcibly remove Eros from his custody. This results in a furious rampage that is quickly followed by wanted posters and avoiding the authorities.

They recently settled down in the Lurking Shadows clan due to the lack of larger clan influence. Bao does not get along well with the others but the entire clan seems to adore Eros. The little Mirror often gets spoiled with treats that he happily sneaks back home to Bao, who doesn't seem to mind the doting at all.
