Biography
Deepsea Knight
There are monsters in the sea. This was a fact that Apollo learned from personal experience, for it was a creature who resided in the ocean who made him the way he is now. As a hatchling, Apollo was always curious; a quality that inevitably got him into trouble. He would explore the the Cathedral where he hatched and its surrounding grounds, always investigating areas where he wasn’t supposed to be. It was during one such expedition that Apollo saw them; pulses of light that broke with the waves on the sea's surface. He knew very little about the ocean, but he thought that perhaps he should explore there too. One day he dove and the sea seemed to pull him down. . . and down. . and down.
This was how Apollo found himself at the bottom of a deep oceanic trench where the ruins of an ancient city sat, now abandoned beneath the waves. There was no light save for the pale glow cast from an enormous tower that perched above the ruined city. “I don’t get many visitors from the surface” a voice whispered. The tower began to move, for it was never a tower, but an enormous dragon, her form covered with sea life and offal that had drifted down and settled at the bottom of the sea. Her eyes flicked open, two burning orbs, as bright as the sun that pierced through the darkness and settled upon Apollo. “YOU” the voice rumbled, "I know what you are, faerie child. Still young and innocent now, but will you be able to resist the temptation of your kind? To become a liar? A manipulator? A torturer?”
Apollo attempted to answer the beast, confused by her words, but his mouth only emitted a stream of bubbles. Her laugh reverberated through the water. “You still admire your parents? Well, who do you think put me here? I came from the surface once too. . . and I should devour you for what your kind did to me. But I will make you a deal. Teach me how to dance and I will let you live. I can even show you the ways of the sea”.
Apollo fulfilled the bargain he made with the creature called Leviathan and she, in turn, taught him to live underwater as easily as he could on the surface. Apollo’s parents never knew what happened to their son, who mysteriously disappeared beneath the waves and never returned. On land, he could still dance and sing as all faeries could, using his magic to enchant anyone who witnessed his performances. But he never became manipulative and cruel like his parents. He found a new home where he could be close to the ocean. It was said that his song could soothe any creature who resided in the sea. For Apollo knew better than anyone that the monsters who lived in the ocean were not as monstrous as they were simply misunderstood.
