A born princess, Jaelle came was an offering of goodwill from the allied clan Niharike to Amarayne when she was just a hatchling. As she grew it became clear to her that the clan was her ward, and she wasn't sure just how to handle such a large responsibility. The young guardian would work herself up into a frenzy or drive into exhaustion, which was not healthy or beneficial for anyone. In time she figured out just how to balance things out, though she still had moments of pushing too hard to make her parents proud of her.

She bore a son who ended up staying with the clan, becoming a healer and pledging to defend and heal all of his clanmates of their ills. He inherited a lot of his mother's fiery spirit, including her penchant for overworking, and she loved him dearly. He died protecting his patients from the attacking army during the siege upon the clan by the Shade-touched Mirrikh, along with around ten other of Jaelle's wards.

Jaelle is still reeling from the death of many of her clanmates and most of all, her son. She blames herself somewhat for not being able to protect everyone, though anyone sensible knows she did her best and saved many lives. She is reclusive yet always on watch, saying little to her wards yet thinking of them and their safety always. Her family insists that she needs to see her mother, who went through similar pain. Jaelle claims that she is too busy.

Jaelle has always put her duties far ahead of her own, often with harsh consequences. She would collapse and be unconscious for days at some points because she refused to sleep, though she was eventually relieved of this practice. Nowadays she opts to watch over the clan from afar, not developing attachments which could sway her when disaster strikes, or so she claims. She will sit out in bitter cold or scorching heat, and she will follow particularly at-risk individuals out on their trips, though she will say very little if anything to them aside from letting them know she is going with them.

If you miraculously found her in good spirits without the overwhelming sense of duty, you'd find that she's actually very insecure, especially when she compares herself to her family and to fellow guardians. She fears not living up to the expectations, dragging her family name down with her own failed legacy. Even if she knows how ridiculous this sounds to her family and how dearly they care for her no matter what, she can't totally discard this fear. She can only overcome it, but this is hard to do now that she is so withdrawn.

She is hesitant to bear new clutches. Her son's death has affected her so badly that she doesn't want more children to get attached to for fear they too are ripped from her. It was so bad that when she did find herself accidentally gravid, she hid the clutch in secret and visited it only to ensure it was incubated and developing properly. Of course, since her nephew was a detective who could read dragons like a book, she was found out, and after gently chiding her he agreed to take care of the babies with his mate. She simply isn't ready for motherhood again, and interacting with hatchlings unless she needs to protect them is right out. Still, she's a very good mother, so no one is sure how long this will last or if it is indeed the new normal for her. All they can do is be supportive and respect her boundaries.
