Biography
With a penchant for kindness and a golden heart, Hermes is an almost constant source of lightness in the Blood Roses. He has been molded by a sense of good his entire life. Growing up, Hermes lived in the Mirrorlight Promenade. He was surrounded by community and support his entire childhood. His parents lived by the concept "It takes a village to raise a child".
To be malicious was an unknown phenomenon to him. As he grew older, his conscience developed into that of a dragon who was determined to help others throughout his life. He decided to become a healer; He would be able to save lives.
Hermes traveled to a university near the coastline where scholars thrived. There, he learned an adeptness with the art of healing. He easily fell in love with it. Being a source of calm and hope ignited his soul. When he felt he had learned enough, he bid the university farewell and set out into the world. He found there was no shortage of dragons who needed his help. From the most primal of villages to the sprawling, great cities, he was sought after. His life at this time was a series of journeys; One of these sojourns led him to the Kingdom of the Red Sun.
Work wasn't plenty in the kingdom, at least not at first. Unfamiliar with the city, he found himself among those who did not need his help, managing just fine on their own. It wasn't until he curiously wandered into the Temple one early morning that he found a place where he could make a difference in dragon's lives. It didn't take much time lingering around to realize the Temple was where the poor went for help. The head priestess sadly explained that, while they gave them food and other supplies, so many died of diseases none of the acolytes knew how to cure. Hermes took that as a sign. He offered his services immediately.
Hermes stayed at the temple for a long while, until his peaceful existence there was interrupted by a dragon bursting in one day. She assailed the head priestess instantaneously, demanding the best healer in the Temple come with her. That, of course, was Hermes. He was surprised but obliged after the head priestess quietly explained that she was one of the royal protectors of the king and queen.
In the chaos that followed, he learned her name was Imara. Her urgency was on account of her partner, the other royal protector, being gravely wounded out on a mission. Without any warning, she rushed him into the palace and to her partner. Hermes wasn't optimistic upon seeing Theseus; Part of him doubted he'd make it through the night. However, under Imara's fiery gaze, he tried. And Theseus did. While the immediate danger had passed, Hermes stayed with the two during Theseus' recuperation, just in case something else went wrong. He quickly grew bored in his position as simply a watcher, and when he felt Theseus was okay enough to slip away with, found himself somehow wandering into Imara practicing her swordplay. This soon evolved into Imara teaching him how to use a sword. Whilst Hermes didn't love the concept of wielding a weapon, it was something to do during the day and became a hobby. Even more so, he became quite good with it.
When Theseus had fully recovered, and it was time for Hermes to leave, he found himself hesitant. He had enjoyed being a part of this odd trio and had become quite good friends with the two over time. After a wayward comment from Imara about how, "They could really use a healer...", a simple letter to King Aether was all it took. It didn't take long for Hermes to get into the swing of this new life he had taken on. He had already spent so much time with the two, it felt natural now officially being part of their team.
The strangest adjustment for Hermes was that of the royals he now worked for. Imara and Theseus were shockingly informal with the royal family, treating them more as friends than charges. Stranger yet was the children, who treated Imara and Theseus like family. There was always a spot among them for the two. Most guilty of this was perhaps Vasya, only 12 at the time, aptly intelligent and filled with burning curiosities and many questions Hermes was uncertain how to answer. He admittedly tried to only engage with Airan and Serena at first, the oldest siblings and who he felt the most comfortable among. This didn't last forever; Eventually, he found himself falling into a familiar role, too. While he tried to stick to his duty, he found himself amusing Vasya, pretend sword-fighting with Dante, or escorting Calla quite often. He became fond of the youngest royals speedily. His relationship with them remains similar today, though as they grew a little older - especially Airan and Serena - he took to affording them the respect of royalty; Bowing or calling them by their titles. Still, underlying that is a fondness that could only come from familiarity of family.
When Adelia and Raya each joined the Blood Roses, he formed a similar relationship with them that he had with Dante and Vasya. More like little siblings than colleagues, he adores the two ladies. He loves to tease them, almost relentlessly, but they both know he'd do anything for them. All they have to do is ask. He often advises them and prides himself on being someone they can confide in when all else fails. He's fiercely protective of them, and while he's not a dragon of violence, the quickest way to incite him to it is to harm Adelia or Raya. The two respond to him with a similar protectiveness in kind.
Hermes remains just as warm as he has always been. His personality is cheerful and light, and he brightens up every room he walks in. His heart has only grown bigger as he's gotten older. After adjusting to his new life, he went back to helping heal the common people. He spends a great amount of time out among the people, but will drop absolutely everything if one of the royals or Blood Roses gets sick. He continues to train with his sword, and likes to joke that one day he'll be on par with Imara, though he's equal to the hardened commander, if not a little worse. He still loathes to use it, and will always see it as a last resort, preferring to campaign for peace.
Hermes generally gets on incredibly well with just about anyone. He's one of the more public Blood Roses, a favorite of the people who wears his heart on his sleeve. Hermes prides himself on being a gentle soul between his colleagues strength and vicious intelligence. Often, he's nicknamed the guardian angel of the masses, a title he's thrilled to keep.
