NAME grew up in a freezing, unforgiving landscape above the treeline of the Ice flight's Cloudscape Crags. He found his passion early in life, patching up other young dragons who injured themselves: he was meant to be a doctor, to heal not through magic, but through the practiced application of science. While his birth clan was highly dependent on magic just to survive, he believed that magic could never truly replace the need for knowledge and skill. He was talented from a young age, but his clan was not equipped to teach him the skills he needed, so when the song of the Search began to call him away, he left without remorse. He caught a boat from the Southern Icefield to the mainland, and when he got there he quickly found a mentor to teach him. It did not take him long to master most of the skills he was introduced to--not with his passion, or with the undercurrent of the Search's urgent pull on him. He found himself unable to stay in one place long, so he left his mentor and continued on. He views the Search as something of a nuisance. It's an annoying, distracting feeling that prevents him from being the best doctor he can be. He would end the Search through pure willpower if he could, but he's tried, and that doesn't appear to be possible. |

WIP Just like that, the Search was over. It brought him across Sornieth, the constant nagging he could never fully shut out. It forced him to abandon any endeavor before he could every truly commit to it. Now, years later, it finally made sense to him. It was over - he finally found her. The young Pearlcatcher's name was Libra. What immediately struck him was the absence of her pearl; the worst fate he could imagine for her kind. She hadn't even noticed his stare by the time he made up his mind to join the Monarchs' Sanctuary. Tyyfyrx and Galehfryen were happy to welcome him in; they were intrigued by his title of "doctor", and suggested he acquaint himself with the resident mages. Magic. So it was one of those lairs. No matter - what was important, was that his purpose was now apparent to him. He immediately introduced himself to Libra, and didn't waste any time explaining why he was here. Her saddened eyes, heavy with the despair that comes from losing a pearl, suddenly flared. It surprised him - did she think that, somehow, he could fix her problem? Was that what he was meant to do? Just as he began to settle in, he saw a face so jarring he at first didn't believe his eyes. Grahryykthrk. An infamous bandit, the scourge of the Cloudscrape Crags, a fugitive of the Icewarden himself - here, in the dream-like world of Starlight Strand. When their eyes met, and the recognition fully sunk in, he found himself paralyzed by fear as the Ridgeback gave him a fearsome grin, daring him to speak out, taunting him for his cowardice. One false move, and someone was sure to die. The pieces were finally coming together. The pearl-less girl. The wanted criminal. A clan assembled of dozens of dragons, each with their motives and secrets, some of them harmless, but too many of them malevolent. He needed to sort through the mysteries and the lies to uncover whatever dark plans were underway. Once, he would have considered this responsibility a burden. Now, any degree of failure was unacceptable. He would set things straight - or die trying. |
