______ It catches his attention, for only a moment, nothing more than a single moment, and soon after, it's destroyed. Every thing he had shown interest for slipped his claws, no matter what he did. Not yet. The game pieces are moving, but he doesn't know how to play yet. His only parent, the one who killed his brothers, Babette, made sure he knows his place. As of now, he's nothing but a pawn. He eats when she extends her hand to him, he drinks when the same hand permits.

______ With every bone crushed, every drop of blood drunk, he became a piece of higher value. His value is the only thing that matters. As soon as there is something more valuable than he is, he'll be replaced. Babette has no sympathy for anything she doesn't find interesting enough. Her game, Hannibal had no choice but to play, by her rules, her tempo... He had to dance as she wished... For now...

______ "As we spread, we will thrive." Although Hannibal was a Wind dragon, Babette made sure he was raised according to Plague's teachings. Or at least ones she liked. Firstly, she taught him how to defend himself. The longer he lived, more damage he'd be able to deal. She taught him how to prowl, pick a target, either weak or the strongest, whichever he wished for. She taught him the weak spots of every prey species available, including other dragons. She hated teaching him how to kill a target quickly, as she didn't get to play with her meals until he learned. Luckily, Hannibal had extraordinary observing ability and learned quickly to hunt for food. As he overcame basics, Babette's true nature surfaced again. She tore the prey in front of him, spilled the organs, played with intestines...
In those moments, when she had the most fun, he found her unspeakably ugly. Just a beast, nothing more. Nothing but a disgusting creature.

______ As he hunted for his own food,
he realized he wasn't like Babette. She was only interested in blood, and so was he, until he swallowed the meat of another Pearlcatcher during one of his meals. As he was spreading his taste palette, he learned that preparing the meat in different ways provides different flavors and that it also differed across the species of dragons. It was important to note what dragons ate as well, as it could give meat that, special, rare flavor, found nowhere else. Same was true for blood, naturally. Babette didn't care much for fine cuisine, but she did occasionally enjoy blood differently prepared, instead of raw.

______ The thrill of hunt, the thrill of killing, the thrill of eating the prey. Hannibal preferred to kill the prey he picked swiftly, unless they crossed him, take a piece or two, and display the corpse for everyone to see, making the art of their death, a spectacle. A Wind dragon painting in blood and sculpting in bones, singing in screams, and playing with sounds of crashing whats left as a melody... It was nothing more than a game, but not like Babette's game. Not even close. His game was not brutal like hers, his game was elegant, beautiful, the dance of death. Still, the respect he held for her barely made her worthy of not being a potential target.

______ Unlike Babette, he preferred to hunt in cities, the larger the crowd, the better. His "art" had to be seen by as many eyes as possible. He loved the attention almost as much as killing his handpicked targets.

______ Smart and careful as he was, Hannibal was never caught by the ones who were after him. If anything, he played with them as well, like in chess, they were nothing more than a pawn that always moved as he wished. Sometimes they were used as his art material as well, particularly lovely pieces, the ones he gave more thought than the regular ones.

______ He rarely worked with Babette at this point, but he did sometimes come back to her, just to relax a bit, be understood. She didn't truly understand what he was doing, nor did she care, but at least she didn't shiver at his stories of killing and tearing meat like any other dragon would. That provided some comfort for him. He wasn't afraid of solitude, but talking to someone did put his mind at ease, at least for a bit. After all, he was always calculating, the cogs rolling...

______ Babette and Hannibal are currently living in the Forsaken Cave, being hunters and Hannibal being an artist, painting pictures outside of the cave. They're always in shades of red, but thankfully nobody in the Cave asks what is used as paint. It's not like Hannibal loves everyone in the Cave, but he admires the freedom he is given, with nobody asking what is he eating, what is used as the paint or why is Babette's name on some wanted poster. They won't ask, at least while there's no trouble brought to the doors of the Cave, which Hannibal will not let happen either way... Well, he cannot vouch for Babette...

Quote:
At first, Jam seemed quite unnerved by the Pearlcatcher. But she quickly softened her gaze, and gave him a welcoming grin.

"Jam can tell you are a fine creator, friend. She thinks that you magnificently dressed as well, you have a fine taste in apparel!"
