She asked him if he ever wondered what trees were. No, beyond the single, lone maple in the pasture was. What was a tree like? The books in their home said they could grow to be much larger than that tree, their leaves dense into little spikes, thorns on their bark, fruits and nuts and all sorts of things on their branches.

UNNAMED slid off the fence. She only had so many years in her life before it ended, and she couldn't waste them mindlessly growing like the sunflower fields behind her. He was there, sitting behind her, and he did not stop her from leaving. It was the dumb trust of family, the heedless hope for one another. She never stopped him, and he never stopped her.

It was that very night that she first thought that he should have stopped her. Galewolves make quick work of sleeping children, and if it wasn't for a wandering imperial the brutal wild would have had its way. Antheridia was her name, and though she was a giant she held a gentle claw. It wasn't in her nature to stick around, and UNNAMED knew her for but two days before they were handed over to the tundra herd on the sunpan plains.

Daisy took her upon her back, and like Antheridia before her took her towards the horizon. In the shade of the herd, walking was easy, and stopping by Mangata's potholes for a drink and a swim was relief from the burning sun. UNNAMED was reluctant to leave the laidback tundras, but they gave her food and drink for the coming journey.

The bamboo forest was something she'd never even read of, the giant reeds growing far into the sky had her chin tipped the entire walk through the forest. It was only when she heard giggles did she stop to look around her. Beyond the stalks and grasses she saw a gaggle of ladies, and sneaking closer she found that they were laughing at.

It was a hut, and inside the hut a man was splitting bamboo for future use.

A woman approached and the crowd split before she drew close enough to touch, and with a single golden eye she peered at the man, leaning herself on the doorframe.
