NAME MEANING

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍Peddlar came into Hypericum City just about how you think he would---one day he wandered into the main square on the back of his charger Jingles, the satchel hanging from his hip full of wonders that he sold to the children for a penny or two. What he was doing before, no one knows, and Peddlar certainly isn't telling.

The thing is, he doesn't stay in places for very long. That, he'll tell to anyone who bothers to ask. It's his own choice, he'll insist. It's not like anyone wants him to stick around anyway, with the way his face looks. No one wants someone that scary-looking around their kids. He doesn't mind. He gets it. He doesn't put down roots like most dragons in the first place. He'll be gone by morning, madam, don't you worry.

But his stall has been set up for almost a month now, and he's shown no signs of packing up. Maybe business is booming. Maybe he just hasn't picked out his next destination yet. Or maybe it's the friendship he's formed with poor Calamity, knowing as he does what it's like to be haunted by the past. What he knows for sure is that the soil under his feet feels like "home", that the river rushing by his inn window sounds like "lullaby", and that, for once in his life, he has no desire to leave.

He should've known it wouldn't last long.
