Oberin
Veteran Mage
calculating • careful • they/them

Did you see something?

As one of the first members of Clan Cornifer, Oberin has seen nearly as many battles as the clan founder. Being a quintessential Arcane Fae, Oberin has practically mastered using their innate magical talent- as well as their diminutive size- to their advantage in battle. Oberin was the first to stand beside Bukere and promise to uphold her ideals; that those weaker needed protection, that protecting others was honorable, and that they would create a clan together that upheld Cornifer's sense of honor. Though Oberin rarely speaks of their motivations, they are often the first to accept missions and freqeuntly fights at Bukere's side. Oberin seems calm, and to many clan members rather aloof- but this is mostly because the other breeds in Cornifer are not familiar with the Fae's way of expressing themselves.

Oberin takes pride in their work. They find completing missions quickly, efficiently, and above all safely for clients and fellow clanmates to be like an intricate puzzle they have become excellent at solving. They don't enjoy bloodshed, but believe it is dishonorable to hesitate, abandon others, or fail their mission. And, if others could interpret Oberin the way Bukere and Ellaria can, one would quickly realize Oberin absolutely loves magic. It is in fact a struggle to keep themselves contained; using exactly as much force as required was a necessary skill Oberin had to develop or risk fallimg pray to the temptation of darker, more powerful, and ultimately uncontrollable magic.

This has led to Oberin gaining a position as the clan's most veteran mage. Others defer to Oberin's strategy, seek their advice for advancing further in their studies, and if necessary it is Oberin that informs Bukere when a potential recruit is heading in the wrong direction. Oberin and Ellaria do prefer to keep to themselves, after all, and direct confrontation has never been the Fae's style. Bukere trusts Oberin with her life, and he offers her the same trust. Since Ellaria's arrival, the three of them have become intimately close friends. Bukere is among the few members of the clan that can have an easy conversation with both of them. The three spend most of their time together in a comfortable silence, with the two Fae often resting on the larger Guardian's back.

It happens often that when Bukere is disturbed by someone seeking her out, when she shifts and stands the fluttering movement of the Fae pair shocks onlookers who have forgotten the other two were there. It is in part because Clan Cornifer is filled with large, powerful dragons, most of the fighters either towering Guardians or Imperials, so visitors don't even expect to see the tiny Fae, and in part because Oberin has practiced being small and unnoticeable for so long it has become difficult to stop. They seem to create some unintentional sphere of misdirection around them and often surprise fellow clan mates by seemingly appearing out of nowhere.
