Once named for the animate golden statues made at the Great Furnace, Idol learned fire magic from some of the first dragons the Flamecaller created. He spent his early years diving through the sweltering currents of the Molten Scar, pulling up streams of rare metals for others, but he's surprisingly dismissive of the metallurgy and crafting of his home flight. Idol is a master of an older form of creation: Landshaping.

His adult life has been spent traveling the world's coasts and mountains, reaching deep beneath the earth's crust to form shallow off-shore shelves or islands. Inland, he manages the lava upswells that push up mountains. His favorite memory is still when he was called to supervise an eruption off the coast of the Shifting Expanse, feeling the gobs of magma sail over his wings as he soared on the updraft.

Outside of his work, Idol can be a bit terse. There are few Landshapers on Sornieth and most of his jobs are done alone, leading to loneliness. Happy to socialize even though his social skills are sometimes rusty, Idol forms fast bonds but doesn't always keep them. Many mates and friends have been left behind when he moves to another job. Competitive but not a sore loser (as long as you're a friend), Idol enjoys games of chance.

Recently hired by the Beacon to monitor its position related to the coast, he is presently staying with Clan Mediasolis. Between keeping measurements and tuning into the lava far below, Idol has met a number of other old Imperials in similar positions, including his old friend/rival Earthdiver. He's having a good time so far; He'll ask if he'd be welcome to return after his next job.
