Hope is such a fickle, frail little thing. It can grant great power, and change many things, but its powers aren’t infinite. No… its powers are actually very, very limited.
Jadturmin is not a very hopeful being. In fact he’d consider himself rather...dull and depressing. He has no hopes, aspirations, passions… he is content with his little gazebo lovingly placed within an endless expanse filled with flowers. He appreciates his teapot which is always filled with delicious tea and the various snacks that are placed upon the table before him. He is content with the way his existence is playing out, even if it is ultimately meaningless.
Jadturmin has seen it all: empires rise, wars play out, heroes standing tall, only to be toppled over by time, their own arrogance or an opponent too mightly to be defeated. The coatl-like being has seen it all, and accepted that everything is ultimately…. meaningless.
Quite a saddening thought, though it felt freeing when he first realized it.
Nothing matters in the grand sceme of things, nothing is truly important. If one were to die, the world would continue spinning, and while their loved ones would mourn and their opponents would cheer, within a few years the effects of their death would barely be noticed in everyday life. Heroes, rulers and villains tend to have a longer lasting effect on those left behind, but with time even they turn to myths and legends, to ultimately be forgotten. That’s the way life works: it is ultimately meaningless, no matter how you look at it.
Some have hopes that their life won’t be. That they won’t be forgotten with time, and they will be remembered until eternity itself comes to end. Their aspirations, passions, motivations and ambitions will shape the life they have, and can truly make it shine. However, when those things are taken from them, dragons like those may find that those things which were their reasons to keep on living may just as well become reasons to vanish.
It is because living with hope is seen as the only way to live, that those would-be heroes perish.
It isn’t the only way to live. There’s another.
Accept that hope is fleeting, that it won’t always save you or your loved ones.
And accept that all life is ultimately meaningless.
....Maybe once you do, you'll be able to come over for some tea and biscuits....
