Biography

The Nameless One
It's said that, when he was born, the remaining pieces of the Shade came together, for just one heartbeat, to stand over the newborn. It's said that the evil being kissed the child upon his brow, before fading away to the corners of Sornieth once more. It's said that the hatchling laughed.

The whispers follow him wherever he goes. They tell of the way he murdered his siblings in cold blood, when they threatened to cast salt and iron over his Shade-touched form. They tell of how he can change his face at will and mold his personality like clay. They warn that he could be anyone.

He crept through the clan with barely a word and hardly a glance to anyone. Except her. He always stared at the mind reader, his beady, magenta eyes searching. She would stare back, with ice in her gaze, undoubtedly searching his brain for something significant. In a moment though, she blinked, and her stony facade was broken, just for a moment. Shock had lightninged across her face, just to fade a moment later. She muttered something about the impossibility of his... mission, before slinking away.

That night, he left the clan.

Now, he haunts the dusty road, becoming anyone, from a kind and gentle school teacher to a pompous noble. He'll become anyone to complete his mysterious quest.

And tomorrow, you best latch your windows and barricade your door, for he will once again change his name.

Clans He Has Touched:

In the clan of Stellon, the Nameless One went by Zandall, his supposed birth name. He was a shifty, strange character here. However, he was more of a shadow than a real dragon; barely anyone noticed him. He seemed to be... searching for something. It was not until Angel allegedly threatened to skin him alive that he left. The Queen and King are now slightly more wary of dragons who come knocking on their door at the dead of night....

His path next led him to Clan Elderwood, an older clan hidden under a tall canopy of leaves. When he entered the clan, there seemed to be some other travelers, but he mostly kept to himself and went by Helik in his stay. Something was off though, as if he was being watched. Helik searched around, but couldn't find any dragons or otherwise watching so he shrugged it off and unpacked in a small tent. Not a minute later there was a loud thud and a... Ridgeback? It was hard to tell, due to the bark that made up their body. They stared at each other in silence for a solid minute, until it spoke up and growled at Helik to leave; slightly shaken, he did just that.

As a charming, flirtatious lavender Pearlcatcher under the name of Dominic, he made his way to an under-construction lair in the Hewn City. Mysteriously, despite the infamous Shade that constantly permeated this part of the region, the small square of land surrounding the clan was free of shadow; the thought of what could've done this made him nervous, though he persevered with the goal of furthering his cause on the forefront of his mind. His mission... to spread the Shade to every corner of Sornieth. To every dragon, be they hatchling or elder.

After weeks of flirting with and gradually gaining the trust of a naive little Spiral named Fractal, Dominic's plan was finally starting fall into place; in defiance of her family, the crystalline Spiral had boldly declared she and the Pearlcatcher would be raising a nest together, and Dominic heartily accepted. He knew that the Shade energies permeating his body and mind would transfer to any hatchlings he had, and that would bring him a step closer to his goal.

Sure enough, rather than her eggs hatching into lovely little Pearlcatchers and Spirals like Fractal was expecting, the hatchlings Dominic sired were twisted and vile, bearing empty eye sockets and needle-sharp teeth. Their bodies were spindly and lanky, massive for their age, and their bony limbs and thin wings wrapped protectively around them like wings around a sleeping bat. Their wailing voices were not those of newborn dragons, but seemed to better mimic the shrill, tortured shrieks of forsaken souls. To give the babies a proper introduction to their soon-to-be darkened world, Dominic ever so briefly slipped back into his birth form and perched upon his mate's shoulder.

Speaking of his mate, dear Fractal was quite visibly shaken by the sight before her. It was to be expected, after witnessing her corrupted children, this horrific, bastardized version of a Fae perched on her shoulder, and the sickening names that crept up from The Nameless One's throat as he crowned each of his offspring. Taking mercy upon her, the Shade creatures made her demise swift.

...

Agul and Kintra had departed from their hatching grounds immediately, while Vemraz had stayed behind to watch his mother's transformation into another vessel of the Shade; with this, The Nameless One was left to continue his adventures alone... at least, that was what he thought. Right as he was leaving the Sunbeam Ruins, however, he came across a bright crimson Guardian limping along one of the dusty, beaten paths. He looked into the dragon's heart and saw the mighty warrior's fighting spirit, and was struck by sudden inspiration. This dragon was looking for a fight, huh? Well, he'd get one.

The Shade creature, now bearing the form of a torn and battle-scarred Imperial named Cedar, swooped down onto the Guardian with death in his Nature-emerald eyes. The Guardian yelped and jumped out of the way, and with a sudden look of confidence flashing across his face, leapt up to strike back at his attacker. The two were sent tumbling, wings and claws flying and fangs bared violently, right into another clan!

In this clan, he went by Nollis, the travelling Guardian. There wasn't much for him here since it was a rest stop for travelling pairs with little chance of him interfering. So Nollis decided to stay for a few days watching for an opening, but left as he found that there was no chance to spread his shade here.

To this lair, he went under the alias Calvum the Spiral, whose job was to be a mercenary for the Clan that he provided for, at least through the duration of a few days. As he suspected, it pleased the leaders of this Clan, and nobody suspected a thing. Deft in battle, he also acted as a charming young fellow, many of the dragons in the Clan fell for him. None as much so as Charoite the Alchemist, though, and soon they had laid a nest of three eggs.

All were Faes, as would be a probable outcome of a Fae and a Spiral. But rather than caring for her hatchlings, Charoite went right back to work in one of the deepest, darkest dens of the lair. He inquired as to whether she knew what her children were. To his surprise, she nodded.

"I know you are a being of the Shade," she said. Zandall was taken aback as she continued, "I've been diligent in my studies. Now all that's left is to keep you for good."

The Fae shed his disguise, gazing down at her. He hoped to intimidate, but something about the way those veiled eyes stared into him unsettled him. Quickly, he feigned to the left, while flying out towards the right. He grinned as Charoite fell for the ruse, quickly on the road again to another Clan to haunt.

But soon, there were cold, dark tendrils coming after him. Realizing that Charoite hadn't been so quick to fall, he shoved a Skydancer into a corner, cursing him for a few minutes so that he wouldn't be able to move a muscle while he made his escape. He quickly took on his appearance, just for a few minutes. He walked out, imitating the awkward demeanor that the Skydancer had about him. But at first sight, Charoite didn't fall for it. In one fell swoop, she slashed at him, aiming straight for the heart.

Time slowed for the disguised Shade being, or so it felt like. Morphing into the shape of an Imperial, he swatted her away with his newly-enlarged wings. She persisted to the outer areas of the Clan's territory. With a final well-timed flap of the wing, the nameless spirit sent the Fae down, careening down for many meters until she finally hit the ground.

And so ended the first time the shadeborne creature had ever felt fear.

The Nameless One, yet he went by many names. This time it was Kirai, a handsome Nocturne.

Even after what happened in the last clan, he didn't leave the wind territory. He still had more shade to spread. He wandered southward, and that evening ran into another potential breeding ground; a fair sized clan by the name of Mayotaka Ichizoku.

The first dragons he met were a hunting party consisting of two guardians and a wildclaw. The female guardian caught his eye however, and he decided then that she would be his target. Kirai approached the party with caution, the guardians were much larger than he was, and he didn't want to be eliminated before he could do any harm here. Reaching the group, he introduced himself to them.

"Hello, my name is Kirai. I'm traveling the world, can I stay at your clan for a while?" He bowed as he spoke, the more they trusted him the better.
The male guardian smiled. "Of course," he said. "Mayotaka Ichizoku welcomes all travelers! I'm Dacio, and this is my small but effective hunting team, Ourea and Ash."
The girls nodded, and Ourea stood up. "I can take you back to the clan if you want," she offered.
"Thank you, it is much appreciated." He bowed again.
"No need to be so polite, we're all friends here," Dacio said. "Meet us back here when you are done, Ourea."

On the way back to the camp, Kirai explained that he was looking for a mate. "I love hatchlings but I've never had any. Your clan seems like a wonderful place for hatchlings to grow up, so I wonder if I might find someone...?"
"Actually," Ourea mused. "I was just contemplating taking a mate. I miss having hatchlings around, and nobody else seemed to be doing it, so why not?So I can be a mate for you, if you want."
Kirai blinked. Had it really been that easy? He'd expected some trouble getting her to agree, but her suggesting it made it so much easier!

~ ~ ~

The next few days in the clan were busy in preparation for the end of year festival; the Night of the Nocturne.

Looks like this shapeshifting Fae strayed too far from his home lair (#226373, AwkwardAngel), and now he's off to find more dragons to change. If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.
