Biography

I adopted this bab from a lair clearance, he was just too cute not to! Also, he's named after the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a developer of the Impressionist style :3 I was looking for people who paint with purples and his Portrait of Caroline Remy de Guebhard came up (pictured below his portrait). If he were a she, his name would've been Heather, named after Calluna vulgaris or the Common Heather flowering plant, that's why that's there lel

Renoir is a soft spoken dragon that immigrated from Dragonhome a few months ago. He is the clan's resident painter, and can often be seen painting murals in nests that other dragons have commissioned from him. He goes to the Trading Post sometimes to bring in a little extra income. He loves to paint portraits, and spends a lot of time with his with his beloved daughter Kahlo. Renoir is...less outwardly enthusiastic about his craft than his daughter, but he admires her creative tenacity even if she talks his ears off when he's trying to work.

The Artist Himself
Pierre-Auguste Renoir, commonly known as Auguste Renoir (US /rɛnˈwɑːr/ or UK /ˈrɛnwɑːr/; French: [pjɛʁ oɡyst ʁənwaʁ]; 25 February 1841 – 3 December 1919), was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. As a celebrator of beauty and especially feminine sensuality, it has been said that "Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau."

He was the father of actor Pierre Renoir (1885–1952), filmmaker Jean Renoir (1894–1979) and ceramic artist Claude Renoir (1901–1969). He was the grandfather of the filmmaker Claude Renoir (1913–1993), son of Pierre.

The use of Purple in the 18th and 19th Centuries
In the 18th century, purple was still worn on occasion by Catherine the Great and other rulers, by bishops and, in lighter shades, by members of the aristocracy, but rarely by ordinary people, because of its high cost. But in the 19th century, that changed.

In 1856, an eighteen-year-old British chemistry student named William Henry Perkin was trying to make a synthetic quinine. His experiments produced instead the first synthetic aniline dye, a purple shade called mauveine, shortened simply to mauve. It took its name from the mallow flower, which is the same color. The new color quickly became fashionable, particularly after Queen Victoria wore a silk gown dyed with mauveine to the Royal Exhibition of 1862. Prior to Perkin's discovery, mauve was a color which only the aristocracy and rich could afford to wear. Perkin developed an industrial process, built a factory, and produced the dye by the ton, so almost anyone could wear mauve. It was the first of a series of modern industrial dyes which completely transformed both the chemical industry and fashion.

Purple was popular with the pre-Raphaelite painters in Britain, including Arthur Hughes, who loved bright colors and romantic scenes.

The Meaning of Purple
PURPLE: A combination of red and blue, purples are regal and dignified to be used with discretion. Pale shades are restful and serene, but the darker shades make it difficult to focus. Lavenders signify refined things of life, creative, witty and civilized. Purples can be tiring on the eyes and cause a sense of frustration, but it can make an excellent foil for works of art. Gloom and sad feelings can be portrayed by using purples.
