Once upon a time, there lived a great warrior.

This Ridgeback was feared, yet respected--loved by his people, and loathed by his enemies. He ruled his land with an iron claw, yet cradled his people within it carefully as he lead them forward in expanding his lands.

No one expected him to die. In fact, no one knew how it really happened...

No one expected that it was the one who supposedly loved him most. A massive Guardian named Vasilios (the Ridgeback's very own advisor and beloved friend) had slain him in the night, and left the very next morning with his carcass in tow. He had a job to do...and this creature was a crucial part of it. Yes...oh, yes, he would see the light of day once more.

For weeks, the Ridgeback would lay buried in the rich soil of the Viridian Labyrinth...waiting...until the day when Vasilios bid Grimshaw to give him life once more. But this life would come with consequences, Grimshaw had explained. Vasilios wickedly scolded him. He knew the consequences, and cared not for them. His beloved war lord would rise again...yes, he would...

In the dark of night, Grimshaw cast his spell...and the newly deemed 'Teivel' arose from the dirt shrieking in agony into the night. He could feel his festering body down to the last sinew. He could taste his own rot. And he was hungry...so hungry...

As he scrambled from the dirt, his wild milky brown eyes stared at Vasilios. He knew this dragon...he knew him. But his memory...why...why couldn't he remember...? Under Grimshaw's control, Teivel would become a weapon of war for Vasilios' use alone. Lockwood, understandably furious, demanded explanation. Those who lived, lived...but those who died, should never live again, he spoke in hushed but enraged tones. Grimshaw hung his head low behind the great Guardian's leg--but Vasilios held his head high and wove his lies in his dark and sweet tones.

A protector, for the clan. A beloved friend, he explained, whom he simply couldn't live without any longer. Teivel numbly watched...hungry...hungry, hungry, hungry. Grimshaw knew what he craved by the clicking and gnashing of his teeth. That night, he took him to the carcass of a dragon felled by starvation...and Teivel fed. This would be his only source of food--the only thing that would be able to sustain him. And this, sadly, is true to this very day.

Slowly, but surely, Teivel began to regain his memory. In silence, he waited...playing the 'good servant' until the day that Vasilios lashed out at his Charge's children. With the help of Deyanira, a sweet and surprisingly sensitive Imperial who Teivel came to deeply care for, the Ridgeback fought back as he had before when someone threatened his family. Seeing him die was...bittersweet. He had loved him, truly. But he had let himself become a pawn...he had failed his people.

Grimshaw, shell shocked by the death of the dragon of his misguided affections, apologized profusely to Teivel. He offered to break their contract and send him back to rest--but Teivel wished to remain awake to protect his new 'family.' Though he must still feed on the flesh of other dragons, he takes only those that are victims of war, or died of natural causes. Grimshaw helps him in this endeavor, and works diligently to control his ravenous hunger. In a way, the two have become fast friends with a deep respect for one another--bound by the humiliation of Vasilios' wicked ways.

His memory has began to trickle back, and is almost complete. And yet, he has no desire to return to his old life in the slightest. With Deyanira by his side and the rest of the Plague dragons at his back, he has become the ambassador for any undead dragon who happens to stumble into the clan. A friend to Mehida, he makes sure that her treatment is kind--but luckily, her master seems to genuinely care for her.

And so, he watches. A new creature, yes...but a redeemed one. A loved one.
