Biography

Scamp x Amdhain from Catkinstarchild

Fletcher, on Amdhain, as a prompt:
Quote:
Many of Amdhain's siblings are little swamp gremlins c: Their parents are quite fond of the dark and occult despite Druantia's cozy tea shop so perhaps Amdhain inherited that strange combination of interests~ A charming swamp witch, perhaps, or a caretaker for those creepy beasties. I can see him raising some massive eldritch worm and cooing at it--"Who is such a good boy? You are!! Now eat your flies! Good job!!"
Amdhain's blood is of a dryad (former tree-spirit) father and a druidic mother, with nature affinity and talents with brewing and concocting potions that started him off well in life. He learned the properties of every plant, leaf, root, insect, and is constantly expanding his knowledge. His motto is, 'Nature provides!' and indeed it seems to, with every ailment potentially cured by just the right extract of flowers. He enjoyed his youth, running wild in the forest in the evenings and spending his days in training, eventually completing his apprenticeship as a ranger, and then a mastery as a nature scholar. This required the completion of a 'masterpiece', which for him was the creation and successful application of a mystical scroll called a 'Breed Change Spell'. He was so confident in his finished article that he cast the magic upon himself right there in the assembly rooms of his old lair, shocking his elders, but delighting the young with his astonishing 'trick'. He wasn't a show-off, but he always does have a soft spot for hatchlings.
Some mocked him for trading his strong Bogsneak body for a lithe fae, but he'd long dreamed of the freedom of movement the huge wings would give him, and he's absolutely content in his new form (though he did have to craft a smaller bow). Now a fully fledged nature-mage and Ranger, he set out for the lair which would call to his heart. He felt sure he'd find it before long, and indeed he did.

Amdhain is a caretaker of the marsh creatures in Oakheart's swampy border country; the dangerous and immense monsters that lurk in the deeps, keeping them satisfied and satiated so they don't prey on the Oakheart clansfolk. He won the heart of one such denizen, Delphi, whom he named such because she is a kindhearted nature oracle, willing to bestow pearls of wisdom about dragons' immediate future if she is evoked by name to one of her sacred pools. She transforms into a flesh and blood dragon but once every few weeks, when the moon is full, and is bound no longer to the earthly places which held her. When she must leave again, she sinks into the marsh, and becomes one again with the Gladekeeper's children, the forests. Amdhain and Delphi's eggs hatch half-submerged in one of the sacred glade pools of the deepest Gladeveins swamp in Oakheart territory, and are born thus imbued with the magics of that place.
Their offspring are gifted in nature magic, fleet of foot and silent runners, though as unforgiving and unpredictable as the marsh which birthed them. Amdhain protects their dryad-blooded hatchlings and teaches them the ways of the woods so they grow strong and skilful and spread the power of nature wherever they roam.
