al-ṭā'ir
General | House Origin | Clan of Rhodes
Fire Touched | Male | Demisexual | Kaley | Shifted
Altair is from a long line of warriors dating back to the earliest dragons. The Clan of Rhodes has trained Paladins since practically the beginning of dragon-kind to protect all of dragon-kind. His House has since been wiped out and he is one of the few members still alive. House Fire Stone rebelled against the Origin long before Altair was born and Fire Stone was destroyed to its last egg by Rhodes paladins under the orders of the then Dragonlord Troy. Altair's mother was a young dragon when her House was destroyed and managed to escape deep into the Labyrinth along with the surviving members of Fire Stone. The rest of the Clan gave chase and hunted them to extinction, even moving their headquarters to the Labyrinth to show their superiority over Fire Stone. Altair is unaware of any of this. He was born in a small clan in the shallows of the Gladevines amid flowers and peace. His mother had managed to escape the destruction of House Fire Stone and made herself a new life in the small coastal clan. There he was raised in the quiet ways of a Nature clan and taught by his mother to defend himself against those who would do him harm and to control his blazing powers native to Fire Stone paladins going for far to even seal his powers behind magic and sealing stones. There was too much of Rhodes in Altair though and eventually his mother knew he had to leave, to find his own way. She sent him off with an old sword she said had belonged to his father back 'when we were something' and the hope he'd one day come home. Altair set out on his journey to find himself after that and amassed quite a collection of strange and not quite well fitted pieces of armor that saw him through many battles. Eventually, he came to the Windshear Caravan when it hung above the mouth of the Great Furnace. Thinking it was going to be like any other clan Altair planned to settle in for a little while before moving on. Or that was the plan until he met Kaley, the charismatic, beautiful, and talented new Commander of the Guard and was smitten instantly. Against his better judgement, he joined the Windborne and his abilities both with fighting and leading saw him rise through the ranks quickly so he could stand by Kaley's side as her First Lieutenant with her brother John. All wasn't well though and despite Altair's feelings, Kaley already belonged to another. A nocturne named Andrew of ill reputation and weak constitution. If nothing else Altair could bond with John over their mutual hatred of the dark nocturne. Their dislike was not unfounded and even rewarded when shortly after Kaley and Andrew's first nest hatched Andrew kidnapped his own son with the intention of taking him to the plague lands for who knew what. Altair and John gave chase and eventually found Duncan and slew Andrew to return the hatchling to Kaley. The event also triggered the breaking of the seals Altair's mother placed upon him to keep his great fire magics at bay and he became an obvious Fire touched coatl. After Andrew's death, Altair was able to confess to Kaley but it did take some time for her to trust him after the last male who she'd had feelings for hurt and betrayed her so thoroughly. He did win her trust and affection eventually though. When the Caravan moved to the Sea of a Thousand Currants the two of them began talking about having their own children. These plans were cut short when Johanna, a paladin sent by the lady Bethany of the Clan of Rhodes appeared and tried to force Kaley to leave the Caravan with her and reveal John's betrayal in telling the Clan where Kaley had been all this time. With the threat of Johanna on the horizon family would have to wait. A disorientated spirit, sent by Johanna, attacked the city some time later in a pincer attack with the Cormorants mercenaries. Altair was at the spearhead of fending off the attacking Cormorants but was inevitably captured and taken back to their camp where he was interogatted by Sing and later by Johanna first about how to attack the Caravan and then the origin of his heritage. Unwilling to give up information on either he was tortured to be persuaded to talk until Desmond managed to free him and distract the Cormorants long enough for him to escape. Altair ran out into the Wasteland where he surcame to his wounds and was devoured by the land. The Wasteland does not make waste, and everything is with purpose. Altair has vast magicks that not even he totally grasps because of his Touched nature and when the Wasteland sought to take it into itself it was met with the wild raging of Nature and Fire magic that caused the plaguelands to change and mutate him, infusing him with energies that he previously didn't have. Altair was reborn into a bone tree in his currant form in serthis territory and later found by the serthis Sira in a much more primal state. She kept him safe and got him out to where dragons who were searching for him could find him. He was later found by Desmond and Sira attempted to return to her sect but they wanted nothing to do with her. Sira was a traitor to her people though and branded an outcast by her tribe, unwanted and told to go out into the Wasteland to die. Instead she asked to go with Altair and was allowed to return to the Caravan with him. Once Altair had regained himself he wanted nothing to do with Sira and scorned her, refusing to even acknowledge she existed. Upon returning home Altair was greeted by his mate and step-son as well as the rest of the Windborne with great enthusiasm. There was a rather grand celebration to commemorate his return and in the days that followed Altair and Kaley ended up nesting to have two eggs. Life was too short and anything could happen to either of them. Not to mention they couldn't let Johanna control them wanting a family. Returned to his former self, though now corrupted by Plague magic that twisted his body into a new species (one that was better suited for the Wasteland), Altair has returned to his place as the First Lieutenant of the Windborne to face whatever it is Johanna or the Cormorants is going to throw at them. |
