The first 'outsider' to join the Vultures after their split from Bechan's Bandits, Mai immediately attached themself to Val, proclaimed themself her protector, and hasn't budged since. Nobody knows quite what they're protecting her from.

Though seemingly stodgy, Mai turned out to have a brilliant mind for trickery, and was nearly-immediately put in charge of a fledgling sub-group of dragons who wished to pursue the fine art of the confidence game.

Intriguingly flat in affect, Mai could almost be carved from stone - until they are called on to become part of a con. Then, and with a suddenness that has been known to alarm new Vultures, they come alive, embodying whatever character they need to play.

Mai doesn't even share their secrets with Val, despite the fact that she is most definitely their Charge. When pressed, once, by Val, Mai's only response was "What you don't know about me can't hurt you." Since then, they have refused to say even that much.

SOMETHING WICKED

____Though Mai's past remains, for the most part, shrouded in mystery, there are a few details that are common knowledge. They have not shared the reason, but let slip that they did not leave their home clan right away upon feeling the impulse to begin the Search. Whatever kept them in the Southern Icefields held them for nearly ten years before they joined the Vultures shortly after their formation. Since then, they have flatly refused to return to their home territory, and rumors about their reasoning are nearly as numerous as those about why they stayed so long in the first place.The most popular theory is that they were imprisoned, and fear being recaptured.

____Whatever their origins, no-one can deny that since their arrival, they have been nothing but dedicated to the Vultures in general, and Val, and to a lesser extent her twin, ever since. Whatever they need to become to profit the clan, whatever unsavory deed they need to do, they never balk.

____For now.

FIGHTING

____Size and nature generally combine to make Mai a slow powerhouse in a fight. They may not be able to react quickly or twist out of the way of a claw, but they easily make up for their lack of speed with their raw power. Their wits do not share their body's slowness. Though they aren't exactly a brilliant tactician, they're more than capable of improvising their way out of a situation that can't be solved by brute force alone.

FRIENDS

____Certainly not a popular dragon by any means, Mai has still earned the loyalty and support, if not the friendship, of their crew of con artists. Of necessity, theirs has always been the smallest of the gangs that make up the Vultures, and it is tightly-knit as a result. Their tiny crew might not always like Mai very much, but they trust them, as much as a con trusts anyone, and they defend them fiercely to the rest of the clan. Rousse, in particular, is fond of the stony Guardian, and Mai considers the charming Fae their second-in-command.

FAVORITES

____The only time Mai truly emotes, aside from the false faces they put on for a job, is when listening to music. They're a terrible musician themself, couldn't carry a tune even if they were given a bucket to hold it in, but that only makes them appreciate it all the more. The bulk of their free time in the Nest, whenever they aren't with Val, is spent hanging around the handful of musicians and craftspeople in residence, hoping to catch a scrap of a tune.

FAMILY

____Strictly speaking, they don't have any family at all. They never associate with their home clan, and they have no blood relatives, or even friends close enough to be called family, among the Vultures. They prefer it that way, or at least that's what they claim. Their philosophy seems to be that having fewer people they care about means less possibility for collateral damage. Perhaps the closest thing they could consider to fit the bill is their Charge, Val. Even Eve, who they occasionally mate with, wouldn't consider them to be family, and the sentiment is completely mutual.
