”You can’t live for anyone other than yourself.” Hands took this phrase to heart, hearing it constantly from his mother and father from the moment he was out of the egg. They wanted him to be strong and not sacrifice himself for the sake of others, self preservation was the law in the carnival in which he was born. He grew disdain for his sister and her "helpful" tendencies as she spent all of her free time running around the carnival and assisting the other inhabitants that worked in their home. She was going to run herself ragged, and he knew it. But would she listen to him? As he reached adolescence, Hands realized he had inherited some of his father's magical abilities in the form of, what he deemed, plant whispering. The trees spoke to him and he could coax things into growing even if they were wilted. He was amazed, as was the ringleader who kept everyone in line in their Carnival. Hands quickly became another attraction for guests to gawk at, but he didnt care. He was proud and good at what he did, and he only got better. However, once reaching adulthood, he knew the Ringleader was keeping him under tighter control. He smelled his nervousness on him. Did he think he was going to try and rebel against him? Hands tried to deal with the sudden lack of freedom, but he soon realized that it wasnt just him being controlled in this way. Both his parents, and even everyone else who worked in the carnival after reaching adult age, were treated as lesser beings. This didn't sit right with him. Not long after his sister ran away, he too fled the Carnival, not wanting to become trapped there forever like his parents had been. He has no intentions of returning, and is seeking a place that can accept him.

• a man who puts value in truth, but only in his own • firmly set in his beliefs • has a closer relationship with the grove of trees around the clan than he does with his own sister (though not due to a lack of trying on her part) • happenstance took him along the same path as Held after she left the Carnival, but Hands was greeted by a pack of hydrenas rather than some welcoming clan guards • he almost died of the injuries he attained from them before Held found him clinging to life near the clan’s borders. He tried to get her to leave him alone and stop harassing him but she fetched more dragons and had them drag him back to camp • if he had anywhere else to go he’d leave, but for the time being he’s allowed himself to stay in Stormshroud for the shelter and supplies it provides, even if he hates having to ask for help • upon his recovery, he’s begun to work hard for the clan in return so he can tell himself he’s earning everything he receives, to avoid injuring his pride any further • Held continuously tries to find a way to connect with him and talk about their shared past and all the garbage that came with it, in some misguided attempt to build the healthy sibling relationship they never had. Hands is annoyed by this but he’s all but given up on trying to tell her off, as she always bounces right back no matter what he says to her • Hands does actually feel some remorse when his words hurt her badly, but not enough to apologize and admit he cares about her at all. He gets angry with himself for being weak enough to give a damn for anyone else. It’s her fault for being so sensitive, anyway. He spent a lot of time trying to teach her what the world was like and there shouldn’t be any culpability on his part that she never did learn.
