______ Cymbeline and her twin brother Banquo were the first children of Celestus. Now, make no mistake, Celestus is not the kind of individual that you might expect to have children. The proud Coatl forged his legacy from sweat, wit and iron and polished it with blood. Celestus is a general, a force to be reckoned with. And yet...somehow, he ended up with a mate. That mate was a female Coatl with scales every bit as golden as his own. Instead of spinning cord, she spins words into silk. Yes, Eloise is a crafty one.

______ And see, Eloise is the one in charge of all the sales that the Silent Crow Inn makes. She is the one who rounds up hatchlings on market day and leads them away to face their uncertain futures. And because it was Eloise who herded Banquo and Cymbeline into line, the twins were not afraid. This was their mother. She would not take them anywhere harmful. The mind of a child is full of sunshine, isn't it?

______ Little did the twins know, they were going to see a place where sunshine is quite scarce. Eloise is not supposed to have favorites. Her job is simple: ensure that the Silent Crow's hatchlings are sent off into good, reputable clans where they will be able to study as apprentices. She is not supposed to have favorites. But still, the Coatl found herself eyeing potential trade partners a little more carefully, keeping her children a little closer than she normally might.
They were not going to stay with her. No, that would never work. As much as Eloise wanted to insure her childrens' futures, she knew that keeping them at the Silent Crow was not a smart move. Getting them involved in everything that went on there....It wasn't what she wanted for them.

At last, Eloise finalized a deal, choosing the dragon that would now be responsible for her children. Gold changed claws. It was a show of faith, really. A price that stood as a show of dedication, a promise that you were going to take care of the apprentices you had just hired. The stranger was a no-nonsense Guardian, tall, imposing and just a tad sinister. His orange eyes burned with the intensity of flames, betraying his home Flight as Fire. Sure enough, the twins found themselves led along on the seemingly endless journey from the Tangled Wood to the Ashfall Waste. The journey took more than a month and by the time they reached their new home, the twins were bigger, stronger, more confident. Just big strong enough to be put to work gathering ore.

B I O G R A P H Y

______ Banquo and Cymbeline were sent into their apprenticeships with very little training, just enough to keep them from dying. Their backs ached from pulling carts of raw iron and copper to the metalworkers. The Ashfall Waste's metalworking trade is harsh and it pities no one. Time passed. Cymbeline was barely old enough to give herself to one of the proud metalworkers as a prize mate, but she refused. She would rather feel the pain of hard toil than compromise her integrity. Cymbeline handled her work with a few complaints, but always made sure that her words were calculated.

______ And so, Banquo convinced Cymbeline to come and train with him in secret. They practiced flying and built their stamina after the mines closed at sundown. The odds were not in their favor, but the twins persisted. It was on the eve of their adolescence that they snuck away from camp and made their way to the border of the Ashfall Waste. The currents between the Waste and the Southern Icefield were tame and they had their wings to pull them along. It took days out at sea, but the twins finally arrived, exhausted, but triumphant, at the edge of the Southern Icefield. From there, they found a clan that would accept them both and they slowly began to re-build their lives.

______ Banquo began his studies as a mage and will still opt out of sleep to stay up and study new spells unless Cymbeline drags him back to bed. She has always been the more insistent of the pair. In fact, she is so insistent that she set her mind firmly on being an artist. It's an unstable, unpredictable profession, but great art is appreciated in every domain. Cymbeline procures only the most rich, brilliant colors for her work and her paintings are renowned throughout the Southern Icefield. Being insistent pays off.

All in all, the twins didn't get it too bad. Some hatchlings don't survive a week after a market day. And even if the sunshine leaves one's mind when adulthood hits, golden scales are sunshine enough.
