Laurel used to be a simple man from parts unknown. He didn't have a mate and his parents... well, his parents were something else entirely. He'd bounced from a few clans before but never seemed to fit in. That was fine; his life was lonely but it was something he'd learned to live with. At least the taverns always had people willing to speak to him and listen to his jokes; his humor was one of his only outstanding qualities. Or that's what he'd say if anyone asked him.

But that all changed one day. The man was walking down his usual route when he came across a pop-up stand that smelled absolutely delicious. He wasn't the first one to notice; a small crowd had gathered around the stand and was chatting excitedly and impatiently. Some where munching on pastries that looked as soft as clouds with an absolute blissful look in their eyes. But what caught his attention wasn't the food. No, it was the busty blond woman and her stoic assistant working the stands. The two seemed so dramatically different from eachother that it caught him off guard; the blond was happy and confident and working the crowd with ease and the other stood back in the shadow of the stand, eyes flitting around nervously as if she was waiting at any moment for someone to attack. He wanted to know more about them and so he waited.

It was many many hours before the crowd finally dissipated and the women started packing up shop. He moved in and silently began to help them and it took a while before even the 'guard' noticed his presence. When confronted, he said he wanted to help and ask about them. This seemed to catch the guard off guard but Strudel was happy to reply, telling him they're a roaming bakery with quite the large fanbase. Strudel introduced her guard Akiline, who gave a firm nod, holding her shoulders high as she attempted to look formidable. Laurel could see right through that act and it made him chuckle.

"When will you be here next?"

That started off everything. Each time the women would return he would linger afterwards and share in personal conversation and the spare pastries that Strudel had (somehow) left over. They were as delicious as they smelled and each time he ate one he felt a deeper connection to the baker and her guard; almost like he could learn more about them through the food.

He had no idea he was secretly being infected.

And before long he became obsessed with their meetings in spite of himself. It wasn't rational, he'd tell himself. But the dark thoughts wouldn't leave him and he found his mind constantly wandering to images of Akeline and those pastries. He liked Strudel just fine but she wasn't what he was after, unlike most of the guests. No, he wanted to be with that small startled girl always... he wanted to protect her, at any cost.

A night came when he woke up in a cold sweat. His heart was racing and his feet urged him to run, and so he did. But to where? The winds were guiding him as he raced across the Lightweavers domain and into shadow territory. Venturing out into these woods at night was a risk but he couldn't stop. He needed more. He needed her.

Akeline was awoken by the loud slam of her front door and she jerked up, startled to see Laurel with a crazed look in his eyes as he panted heavily, worn out by his venture. He was covered in cuts that oozed black goo and she frowned softly, looking away with guilt. So his transformation had finally took hold...? What kind of person would he be now? And why show up at her door instead of Strudel's...? She didn't get an answer, only more confusion as he crossed to her, cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her warmly.

"Aki, let me stay by your side..." And so he did.

A man approaches the counter. He's stumbling; either drunk or infected. Akeline bristles up, still not used to how their victims look when they come back possessed. Laurel simply smiles as he sees Strudel turn up her sultry temptation, wandering a ways off from the stall with her hips swaying. Laurel knows that this is the fate that would have met him if he hadn't have fallen for his darling Aki instead. The infected man is so enraptured in Strudel that he doesn't notice Laurel sneaking off as well, waiting for the right moment.

Strudel would lead him away to somewhere remote before she vanished. After all, she was a baker. She cant keep her hands dirty; not now that he was around. The infected male looks around, eyes wild and lost. And just like he was taught, Laurel swoops up behind him like a shadow, drawing the rope across the mans neck and pulling. Yes, this is how it had to be. The Enyo always needed to feed and men like this... He sneered. Men like this weren't worthy of any other fate. He drags off the unconscious male to the storage container they kept for this particular thing. Yes... This was the fate of men who dared eye his boss and his darling Aki. The Enyo would feast well tonight.
