Alarica

When she was a young guardian, Alarica took for her charge a strange stone relic found as part of the exploration team during a trek to the Starfall Isles. This bright magenta stone pulsated and seemed to be living, covered with runes and obviously holding arcane energy. However, the longer she was around it, the more and more obsessed and defensive she became about her charge. She became paranoid that everyone she met wished harm upon her living relic, that the clan would steal it away in the night. She fashioned a necklace to hold the stone against her so it could not be taken, but continued to distance herself until she became almost animalistic, refusing contact, hunting for herself, and only snapping at anyone who came too close. Impossible to approach, the clan was forced to let her stay in the back shadows where she had hidden herself away, hoping that she would come to her senses somehow.

About two months later, she finally did leave. She was now calm, serene even, and though she would not initiate any kind of conversation she would respond normally and once again joined the clan. Along with her change in temperament, she was now covered with the same magenta runes that had adorned the relic, and it seemed as if she had gotten into a gembond scroll-though some members of the clan swore they had seen the gems blink.

Though she still wore the stone around her neck, it seemed the energy it once possessed had left it. Instead of a pulsing magenta it had become a depleted-looking, cloudy, and pale. She was no longer paranoid and possessive of it, but still sometimes checked it, as if looking for what life might be left in it. Clanmates remembered how she once was with it, and so would not knowledge or look too closely at it, certainly not enough to see the deep claw marks that seemed to have somehow been made on the inside, just under the surface of the gem, as though something was trying to get out...
