Once an ambitious young Maren warlock from the Sea of a Thousand Currents, Proteus pet project was to find a way to magically develop Water dragon traits in Maren, believing this would be the key to decyphering the Tidelord's prophecies from stray bubbles.

However he lost all support from his beastclan when his occult ritual went wrong and turned him into a dreadful hybrid monster.

He was cast out and fled, seeking refuge along the coast of the Sunbeam Ruins. There he was approached and befriended by Sequana, who changed his views on dragonkind and convinced him to join the clan.

Proteus is slowly learning dragon customs as well as developing his divinatory gift - at the expense of his sorcerer skills.

His physical shape is pretty unstable; while he is able to turn mostly Maren or dragon for a limited amount of time, he usually exhibits traits from both species at once, with the specifics shifting constantly beyond his control.

This terrifies local Maren and dragons alike, so he makes himself discreet when they occasionally come negociating with the clan.

Hatchlings of the Caravanserai are usually raised communally by hatchery attendants [unless otherwised specified]. They begin their training at a young age, first from the clan's teachers and then by a master of any trade depending on their talents and interests. Due to the clan's limited resources, young dragons are invited to leave the Caravanserai and seek their own fortune as soon as they come of age, and sooner if another clan has already taken interest in them.

On very rare occasions a youngling may get lost far away from the lair before their time has come to leave - this is usually the case with those masters of trade that travel regularly and take their apprentices along with them, such as any profession likely to be part of one of the clan's caravans. Such an unfortunate loss is always mourned, but the master is rarely to blame - Sornieth is a very dangerous world, after all, and the clan's caravans are regularly under attack, not to mention naturally occuring disasters that may happen around the trading routes.

Hatchlings of Proteus and Sequana are usually raised by the clan's nesting ground attendants. Proteus isn't exactly dad material, while Sequana is busy on diplomatic errands in the Viridian Labyrinth most of the time.

Due to Proteus' genetic makeup, offspring of this pair frequently develop a more aquatic morphology regardless of their dragon breed: webbed toes, additional fins, fish scales or gills... these are only some of the most likely mutations passed down from their genitor. These strange features range from easy to conceal to freakish in nature.

In spite of their unusual appearance, the hatchlings are well-cared by the clan until they come of age. However since it may be more difficult for them than for most to be welcomed in other territories, it is not uncommon of these dragons to turn to their deity and offer their service to their Flight rather than joining a clan.

Some hatchlings may grow into outlaws and use their fearsome appearance to obtain what they want from others.
