• he's trans, babey!!
• the reason why he keeps saying "i am ferdinand von aegir" is because he's extremely proud of the name that he chose for himself, therefore he must announce it to the entire world at any opportunity he gets
• pre-timeskip ferdie was 100% convinced that he had to be extra masculine to be taken seriously but had an epiphany during the timeskip itself that this wasn't necessarily true
• it happened when his hair started to get longer
