The clan's unofficial secondary patriarch, despite his... shady past.

a violent dark mage. nobody really knows where he came from; only yoshiya knows how he came to join the clan, and only because she was the clan at that point. he refuses to talk about his past, and it simply doesn't come up with yoshiya. cairo himself is an incredibly powerful shadow mage -- he was born to Lightning, and his vibrant blue eyes reflect as much, but the darkness that swells within him is far more Shadow than any other.

what really happened was that yoshiya was attacked by a clan of dragons for hunting on their grounds. she could hardly fight back because she was still so wounded from the attack that she was an easy kill. but before things could get too dire, suddenly a dark pearlcatcher stepped in between yoshiya and her attackers. he said some things that were indistinguishable, and one of the attacking dragons slashed at cairo's face before they kinda... popped, with barely a whisper and a wave of cairo's staff.

yoshiya thought she was about to be murdered, too. but when cairo didn't immediately tear yoshiya apart, she realized she should probably thank him for saving her life. so, while grossed out and terrified and in pain, yoshiya bowed her head and expressed her gratitude.
after a bit of careful talking, yoshiya expressed that she wanted to find her home clan and hopefully kill the one who decided to leave her. cairo was all for that killing, so he agreed to travel with yoshiya and guard her for as long as necessary in exchange for Yoshiya's talents at gathering and negotiation.

somehow, yoshiya trusts cairo enough to make him the hoard manager and patriarch. he spends most of his time intimidating off the ridgebacks of the clan from snatching things, and making sure the clan's savings are all in order and untouched. while some doubt how safe of a choice it was to make this rather scary pearlcatcher so important to the clan, others understand that cairo's talents at magic and intimidation are probably what's kept Ilysiad afloat for so long.
