 QIN 'WAVESHRIKE' ZHAO THE CAPTAIN OF THE ARMED FREIGHTER 'MANTARUNE' «- - - - - - - - - - - - - ❖ - - - - - - - - - - - - -» She always craved freedom. It seemed an impossible thing when she was younger, left to fend for herself as both her parents died in a freak accident at the Great Furnace. She would work herself to the bone dawn 'til dusk for meagre gains, and as such there was simply no room for freedom. But still she would grasp it where it came, using those few hours of her own to design things, sketch up designs of engines and exoskeletons. None ever came to fruition, not yet. But they would. One day, she had enough. She'd been tardy for months, listless and bored. The ocean was calling, and she would answer. It was midday when the entire mountain of machinery began to collapse. Giddy she raced past the crowd, swinging up onto the chains and bolting onto the pride of the Northern Shipyard, the freighter known as the Mantarune. Waveshrike has worked for the Thanatos Syndicate for a long, long time. As soon as the Syndicate was powerful enough to have the money to buy a trading ship, it was the Mantarune that they chose- she came cheap, considering that Waveshrike was operating it a.) illegally and b.) on her own. Shockingly enough, this went pretty well for a long time. Over time she'd pick up at least one other sailor, Zachariah Sawyer, after saving his bacon and crafting him some replacement legs for the ones he lost. For a tiny team they're a fantastic pair. Shrike is a shockingly lackadaisical woman for someone who works so hard. It seems very much like she doesn't take anything seriously, preferring to indulge in a high-risk high-reward lifestyle. Yet still she's a shrewd businesswoman and takes running the Mantarune very seriously. It is this dichotomy that sits at her core. She's a loudmouth, drunkard, shoot first ask questions later kind of person; she's a thoughtful, deadly serious, five steps ahead at all times.
