Lilystitch

B I O G R A P H Y

As the firstborn of their parents, Lilystitch and her twin were doted on by worried dragons waiting to see if either had inherited their grandmother's poor health. To their father's horror, Lilystitch's early life was besieged by illness of all sorts, from common colds to scorching fevers. Healers reassured her terrified parents that this was all to be expected for a dragon of her complexion - the gene called Poison had been labeled as such for a reason, after all. However, also true to the expectation of healers, illness after illness relinquished hold on the young skydancer after many trying weeks. By adolescence, she seemed to be as healthy as any other dragon. Her parents were told that she would be more so as an adult.

Her early life, therefore, was often filled with the presence of her parents and their work. Their home was fragrant with her father's perfumes, beating down the scents of illness and medicine while she huddled under her mother's handmade blankets and pillows. Soon enough, Lilystitch was found herself helping her mother in her work, learning how to embroider fine silks after long nights hovering over scavenged scraps of cotton with pricked hands and squinted eyes. It was during this period that she was given the name Lilystitch, originally her fathers before it became her own. For a while, she feared that it was expectation alone which drove her into her craft but hid her doubt with careless smiles and light-hearted tones.

It was a stranger which saved her from her uncertainties, some dragon from far away who had stitched up a doll which eventually made its way to her claws. She despised it. How could anybody make something so poorly! Was this even safe for hatchlings to play with? One use,
one! And the entire thing would fall apart! Lilystitch made it her goal to be better than that distant stranger. She succeeded.

When at last she left her home, the farewell was in the midst of teary-eyed hatchlings. Perhaps she would return one day. She smiled at them in something not-quite a promise before spreading her wings and then she was gone.
