━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“Get back to work.” Spark’s mumble did little to direct the others back to their tasks, but it was the best she could do at the moment. It wasn’t that she wasn’t assertive… she was just really, really busy right now.

“Hey, I’m working.” Chekov sounded hurt, but also didn’t look like he was doing anything. Just sitting there, staring at the spread out metallic pieces. Maybe he was having a bad day, since he was ordinarily very good at this. Or maybe he didn’t much like Jonathan...

Spark shook her head and glanced up. Glint was grinning like this was pure comedy. Chekov looked like he was thinking so hard he’d give herself an aneurism. Jonathan nearly electrocuted himself on a band of copper wires.

“Hey!” Spark snatched the bits from Jonathan’s claws. “What’s wrong with you? Don’t touch that.”

Jonathan looked momentarily apologetic, and then shrugged. “It wasn’t going to kill me. It didn’t kill me when it was still running, did it?”

That may have been a good point. It may not. “Just because you can capture them doesn’t mean you should be dismantling them.”

“I am just a tad smarter than your average bear, you know,” Jonathan grumbled.

Ohm, Spark’s Livewire Grizzley, looked up with a growl at that statement.

As soon as everybody went back to their tasks a moment later, Spark allowed herself a smile. This was, after all, just how she liked it. A quiet night, working together on nothing in particular. Even if half of them weren’t working.

The work counted for a lot, but so did the together.

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Spark lived around the Tempest Spire where she learned the trade of her parents, their parents, and all her friends and neighbors: building machines. Spark was not interested in the typical export of her clan, lightning-catchers, and so turned her attention to the utilization of lightning instead. She distinguished herself as a builder of reasonably small golems, and they sold moderately well despite Spark’s impatience with marketing.

While she had little patience for Glint the scrap salesdragon, she also found him charming and intelligent. They made as good a team as they made verbal sparring partners. When Spark stopped trying to sell her golems (an endeavor she ultimately failed miserably), she decided to travel the world and test her golems herself. If she could get the designs down well enough, they might sell themselves. In the employ of a band of monster hunters called the Tempest Chase, she was pleased to find that her golems made somewhat sturdy companions for the hunters. She improved her designs immensely within the first few months alone and made several friends besides.

As the only mechanically-inclined dragon in the Chase (aside from Chekov), Spark has taken to teaching any interested dragon the basics of constructing. Chekov is her greatest student, but he likes to create his own masterpieces rather than follow directions. Ček is trying to get Spark to understand that life is not all work and no play. Spark finds work to be play enough, though she has found that she likes flying kites… especially in lightning storms. Nadia has tried to tell her that is not exactly the time one wants to be out kite-flying.

Spark is an even harder worker than her mate Glint is, or any other member of the Lightning Flight in the Chase, except perhaps for Fang. However, Spark is very much a community worker and finds it difficult to concentrate when she is all alone in her workshop. Even if she doesn’t expect her companion dragons to actually work, she apparently needs someone around to tell to make more industrious use of their time.

━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Even though she’s moved on and her students no longer need teaching, she keeps in touch with Chekov.
»
» In addition to building golems, Spark has been known to turn out metal armor with the help of a blacksmith. Seems she just likes metal.

aesthetic: Spark likes anything metal and will affix bits of it to whatever clothing she wears. She collects nuts and bolts, because you can never have too many.
likes: golems, electricity, spreadsheets, work
dislikes: nothing to do, marketing, messy workshops
