A small spiral, Oster has a unique story behind his place on the ship Etemmu. Ever since he was born, he had this strange degenerative disease that, while his body could hold it off, kept him from growing any larger then he was when it was developed. His parents coddled him, nurturing and treating him like he wasn't maturing.

He hated it. He loved nature, particularly caves and fungus, but his parents kept him from ever leaving the nest. He schemed and planned, finally coming up and executing a plan to escape from that clan. His plans included never returning, which was quite nerve-wracking and frankly ill recommended.

While he was escaping, he came across a strange Aardvark covered in mushrooms of various purples and pinks. It seemed to be in pain, and he quickly discovered that the mushrooms were poisonous. He communicated with it and helped it, neutralizing the points where the fungus burst from its skin. He developed a connection with it and began to travel with it as a companion, and friend.

He was found, one day, by Byu and Request. The Aardvark had been one of Byu's pets, escaping during transportation back to Etemmu. Byu tried to take the Aardvark back, but was surprised at it's attachment to the little spiral, as well as the improvement of the fungal condition. After some haggling, Oster joined them on the journey to Etemmu, becoming Byu's apprentice.
