Abandoned immediately upon hatching, the young guardian felt relief instead of sadness. He only hoped that the name he was given would not deter him from finding a home of his own. He wasn't a girl!'

Sold to the auction house for a mere gem, he waited to see what his future would bring. Even basic hatchlings, straight out of the egg were selling for more than this unluckily named lad. Finally, a weather-worn, scarred, and surly looking spiral approached him.

"Corrina, eh? I think not!", the spiral snorted. Tossing four gems to the attendant, he looked the young guardian in the eye. "Today is your lucky day, son. Tonight you eat your fill and rest. Tomorrow, your training begins."

A ripple of excitement ran down the guardian's spine. Could it be? His silent question was answered in mere seconds as the spiral, heading quickly towards the door, called out over his shoulder: "Cheghyss! Come!"
