When Frostflower came back to the shifting wastes, she hadn't expected to stay long. She hadn't expected to find a home in the place she left so long ago.
She hadn't expected to fall in love.

But looking at the mass of dark and crimson scales sleeping next to her, she wondered how it had taken her so long to realise that she had done just that. She had noticed that was something she did a lot these days, wondering. Simply marvelling that this was where her life had ended up.

The wildclaw slid her tail out from where it was wrapped around Nyxa's, careful not to disturb her wife's slumbering form, and headed out to the balcony of her tower. Dawn was breaking, and down below she could make out the smaller, orange form of her coven-mate, Fabula, and Rosalin's long, perpetually twisting shape.
'Poor thing can't get five minutes of peace!' she chuckled to herself, knowing that her friend had probably arisen so early for the sole purpose of avoiding the young dragon who had practically attached himself to her. She kept watching, until the two figures disappeared into the tunnel leading to the the kitchens, obviously heading for food before the days work began. It was quiet. Nice.

A stirring behind her let her know that Nyxa was awake, before the heavy thudding of her wife's footsteps could be heard approaching.
'What're you thinking about, love?'
The crimson runes on Nyxa's face are glowing in the pale morning light, her eyes the same colour as the rising sun. Frostflower slips her head beneath her wife's chin.
'Just how glad I am that you didn't bleed to death on me!' (In a few years, she will look back and realise she needn't have worried, as this was apparently never even a real possibility. Nyxa dying at all, that is.)

Nyxa chuckles 'I mean, I gave it my best shot - but then this gorgeous dragon tried so very hard to save me, and I couldn't let all that work go to waste!'
She steps back to move across their floor, tapping Frostflower's back with her tail.
'And I have a patrol to go on - so get some bandages ready!'
