Berry had been on The Search when she discovered Pretzel. At first, she was wary of him. He was slow, always seeming to be lost in thought, and terribly forgetful. She grew agitated of the way he constantly asked for her name, brought up again and again that she smelled of distant berries. Yet somehow, she kept running into him during her wanderings.

Then one day, a thought occurred to her. What if she was meant to be near him?

She didn't like the thought at first. Hated it, really. But, she gave it a go. She worked methodically, making sure to run into him only a few times a month, but seeing as how he never remembered her anyway, she allowed herself to slip up. And the one time he recognised her was the same time she allowed for him to give her a new nickname.

The conversation had gone a little bit like this:

"You smell of berries..."

"Distant berries?"

"No... Familiar berries. Like the kind you always find yourself drawn to again and again..."

It was an interesting choice of words. She found herself curious as to the inner workings of this being's mind, of the possible hardships he may encounter with his terrible memory. Curiosity turned into worry and she found herself at his side more often then not. And eventually, she fell for his dreams, his comforting presence, and the curious way he saw the world around him, so vibrant and alive. Like there was so much more to life then devoting it to one thing and one thing alone.

She sought to see the world through his eyes, and in doing so, she fell for him. They settled down in the Zephyr Steppes and there, they began building their clan.

It wasn't on purpose, mind you. Wandering dragons were drawn in by Pretzel's way of listening and always wanting to learn more. They were grateful for his calm demeanour, and though they were wary of Berry at first, they soon grew to realise the kind ear that lay beneath such sharp scales.

Berry doesn't try to be intimidating, after all, though she may come off that way. She's abrasive, impulsive, and has the size to back her up. Who would want to get in the way of a rampaging Guardian, right? But though she may have such a rough exterior, it is all in the name of protecting her, Pretzel, and their clan. Sure, the clan itself, full of Skydancers and a handful of other dragons, doesn't need much to stay in line or to keep from fighting one another, but outside threats are always a worry for her.

But in her clan, she finds comfort, peace, and a special little thing to protect called Life. And it's all thanks to one forgetful dragon.
