T H E M E:
The Viridian Labyrinth hosts many noble families, a proud hierarchy of Nature dragons, born and raised in the gorgeous greenery of the Gladekeeper's domain. And those noble families have a whole hoard of secrets. They amass them, collect them, store them up like a hatchling collecting stray gems and bits of shiny foil. The House of Jadewing is one such noble family and they, unlike the others, seem to have no secrets. Ah, but things are not always what they seem. The House of Jadewing has been hiding their biggest secret for quite some time now. It's like a gaping hole in the fabric of their legacy. They cover it in patches and stitch it up as best they can, but the hole remains, yawning wider than ever under the carefully-placed repairs. Yes, the House of Jadewing has a truly monumental secret. That secret...presents itself in the form of a young lord called 'Generosity'.

Generosity was born into the House of Jadewing and seemed as healthy a young lord as any in the lineage. But alas, tragedy struck. The House of Jadewing had been involved in a brutal feud with another noble family from the Sunbeam Ruins, the Order of Whispering Light. Battles had been fought, deals had been made and broken, nobles from both families had been injured and even killed in the past. Yes, this was a feud truly reminiscent of the one between the Capulets and the Montagues.

Generosity had the misfortune to be born only a single dragon year before the Order of Whispering Light launched a terrible raid. The poor boy had barely been allowed his first birthday party before he was kidnapped and taken to the Sunbeam Ruins. Originally, it was only a temporary arrangement. He was to be held briefly and then returned for a ransom. But things escalated. A young noble from the Order of Whispering Light was killed. The matriarch of the Order declared that this was unforgivable. The only thing they could do in retaliation, short of launching another raid and risking more lives, was to keep Generosity out of spite.

And so, the young Imperial grew up studying at the ruins, playing on the Mirrorlight Promenade, calling the Lightweaver his reigning deity. He was told of his past, but he always felt detached from it. He was too young to understand the tragedy that he had participated in. Generosity studied the logical philosophy of the Light dragons, becoming thoughtful and quiet as he grew. It wasn't until he was nearly twelve that the Order of Whispering Light signed a peace treaty with the House of Jadewing. Now, this was nothing to balk at. Treaties had been signed and burned before, but this one, or rather the timing of it, was important. It meant that finally, after eleven years, the Order was ready to give Generosity back to his family.

But if you lost a child when they were only just a year old, would you recognize them if you saw them again at twelve? The House of Jadewing was overjoyed to have Generosity back. Then they saw what he had become. He no longer talked to the trees, no longer connected with nature, no longer held the Gladekeeper's name in reverence. No more. Everything about his disposition and his way of life and his manner of speaking and moving suggested a Light dragon. Only his eyes gave away his true heritage. And so, Generosity was spurned. Cast out. There is no place in the Viridian Labyrinth for a logical philosopher whose only joy is the pursuit of knowledge.

The Order of Whispering Light was prepared to welcome Generosity back into their ranks with, at the very least, semi-open arms, but he refused. He felt that the very dragons he had grown up with were his enemies, that they were responsible for the tragedies of his past. He might have been sent to serve the Lightweaver, but both noble families were in agreement over one thing: this dragon would tarnish their legacies, destroy their reputations. He needed to go away, to be swept under the rug. He needed to disappear. Once the idea was presented to him, Generosity was not actually opposed to it at all.

That is how a young noble from the Viridian Labyrinth, raised at the Sunbeam Ruins, finally came to live in a ragtag clan in the depths of the Tangled Wood. Chisai, the leader of the mismatched clan, welcomed Generosity with open arms and an open heart. In all honesty, he reminded her of her own children, some of whom had already left to begin their apprenticeship in other clans. Chisai always told Generosity how much she loved the color green, especially since there is so little of it in the Tangled Wood. As much as he suppresses his emotions, he still breaks a smile for his adopted mother.
