“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight.”

Amanda arrived at the clan with her mate on a dreary night, soaking wet and dripping with blood from various wounds across her body. She could hardly lift herself up, her entire weight sagging against her mate, his help the only thing keeping her upright. Her eyes blurry, her legs unsteady, Amanda had only remembered bits and snatches of that night. Of walking, tirelessly, endlessly, of her mate urging her onwards through her fevered hallucinations, and of light, and warmth and then nothing but cool darkness.

When she finally came to, coherent and bemused, it was to find that they had located a clan to take them on. Though even with her fever broken, Amanda had yet a ways to heal. Her mate visited her often during those first few days, staying for hours at a time, whispering quietly to her in a soothing voice, but whenever she seemed to tire, her eyes drooping, he’d dismiss himself quietly, telling her to rest. Aside from him, the only other dragon to see her during that time was the clan healer, Lylia, a caring and kind soul, nursing her back to health with all the patience in the world.

It was surprisingly humiliating being so helpless, but Amanda persevered, slowly regaining her strength under the help and guidance of Lylia. And when she was finally up and well — though she still tired easily and was often lethargic — it was to learn that her mate had made somewhat of a name for himself in the clan.

The reception she received when she finally left her sickbed was less than favorable, but it was expected. She was the unknown factor. The mate of a brave warrior but who had been spirited away due to some illness. Some truly ignorant ones thought her disease might be contagious and stayed well away from her, casting her shrewd looks and whispering scathing remarks, but the others were friendly enough, curiosity of her drawing them nearer.

And Amanda was just as brilliant as her mate, if not more so. Her every action was demure, her gait graceful and gentle. She was lovely and noble. And she was friendly, talkative even, chatting up even the most reclusive of members and drawing a laugh from them at times. Her smiles were bright, her laughter a tinkling bell; she was beautiful in every way. But Amanda still held the distance that her mate did, dancing around sensitive subjects — such as her past, a subject often brought up by overly curious clan members — with the ease of a ballerina and turning the conversation back on them so effortlessly and flawlessly that they often didn’t realize she’d dodged their questions until hours later. She was untouchable in that aspect, mysterious some would even go as far to say. There was always an inexplicable air around her that spoke of knowledge and wisdom, of mystic and intrigue. Though the ones who reported this strange aura were often inebriated and deemed unreliable.

But no matter how friendly Amanda seemed, no matter how close she got to others, she was closest still to her mate. She was often seen in his company, sharing soft smiles and fleeting looks, and during moonlit nights, they usually take a stroll together. No one was ever interested in where they went during these nightly excursions, but had they been, they would’ve seen Amanda collecting precious stones from the riverbeds, her eyes often drawn to the milky moon floating above. And if her tattoos seemed to glow a luminescent light, or her figure seemed to become ethereal for a split second… well, no one was ever around to question it.
